Hello!

My 8 year old daughter is dying for her ears to be pierced. We are okay with that but want to find a place that is safe and clean.Do you have any recommendations or suggestions regarding piercing techniques? On any good stores except for Claire's or similar cheap stores?
Thank you!

What can I do next?

Yes, like you I was looking for somewhere clean and safe for my daughters ear piercing. I let her pediatrician do it. It was more expensive but definately worth it....

I have had my ears pierced 3 times(3 sets of holes). The firsst was done at Walmart and the other 2 at Claire's an I have never had any problem with mine and I was 5 the first time. I also don't know anyone who has any problems after going to Claire's. Most infections come form not properly caring for the piercings after you get home, not from the piercing technique.

You asked for TECHNIQUES, I say make sure that both are done at the same time to lessen the pain. Continuing the tradition in my family; my daughter got her ears pierced at 3 months old (she'll be 7 months on the 5th) just as I did and my mom did and so on. I took her to walmart because her pediatrician no longer does it and recommended WALMART.

INFECTIONS are preventable if properly cared for however I did have a friend who went to Claire's and 48 hours after her cartilege piercing; she took the earring out because her ear was red and swollen and as soon as she removed the earring; there was an outpouring of blood so make sure they properly line up the center of her ears.

You are so smart for asking this question!!! I would not go anywhere other than a doctor's office. I know that many people get their piercings done at the mall with no problem, but I think it's safer to go to a doctor. I had my ears pierced at age 10 in the mall and ended up having plastic surgery on one of my ears at age 12 because it was improperly pierced. I did not pierce my ears again until I was an adult and then I had it done at a plastic surgeons office. It may be a little more expensive this way, but it's well worth it if it prevents future problems.

most pediatricians do it. Otherwise try a dermatologist.

Our pediatricians office does ear piercing. They use the sterile medical plastic earrings to decrease infection and problems. Did a great job with our daughter. Highly recommend. They are Kennesaw Pediatrics. You can find them from their website www.kennesawpediatrics.com

Most dr's offices will do peircing. It is a bit more expensive, but you know its clean and sterile. You can also ask for a numbing cream there. That is where we had ouir daughters ears peirced at 9 months.
