Ear Piercing - Minneapolis, MN

I hate to offend, but I really think that it's something that she should be able to choose, not you. Just my opinion.

I peirced my daughters ears at one. It was a great age. She only cried for about 5 minutes and never touched or tugged on them. I thought it was a great age. D.

I think a one year old can't possibly understand. I didn't pierce my girls ears because I don't want to decide that for them. In my own family I will not pierce their ears until they are at least 4 but I'd rather have them wait until they truly understand what it means and whether or not they want a life long commitment of holes in their bodies. I think 6-8 is an appropriate age.

We had our daughter's done at Claire's boutique when she was 10 months. Make sure they have two people available to do it at the same time, that way, baby only has one oww. One woman was on each side and they both pierced at the same time. She cried for about 30 seconds, then we gave her a sucker and she was fine. I took it worse than her............

I used to be the store manager of a Claire's store and I hated to do babies. A couple of things to think about if you think you absoultely MUST get her ears pierced...

1. Thier earlobes are so small at that age, it's hard to find the right spot. Be sure that you carefully check the marks before the piercing to make sure they are in the middle of the lobe.
2. Make sure she says really still. You might want to bring your husband with to help hold. I have a 1 year old and she's all over the place.
3. Sit outside the Claire's or whatever store you choose on a busy Saturday for a while. They'll usually have one person dedicated to do piercings at busy stores (like Ridgedale). Watch that person for a while to make sure she's comfortable and that's she's done a lot of them.
4. I would go with the 14K Gold earings. You have less chance of the baby having an allergic reaction to them and they have a sharper point (at least they did when I was there) so the hole will be more exact.

Sorry for the novel, but that's what I would do if I got my baby's ears pierced.

My mother had my ears pierced when I was 2 months old and I'm very thankful I do not remember the pain. The risk of infection is a lot lower if it's done when they are small as well. An 8 year old doesn't understand that they have to be cleaned or they will get infected and be in even more pain then when they got pierced. My first job was at a place that pierced ears and we had people of all ages come in to get their ears pierced and the babies were definitely the easiest.

When my daughter was little, 6 months old, I got her ears pierced. my husband was so much against it. He wanted to know why I wanted to hurt our new baby girl with "making holes in her". He was okay after awhile. My daughter cried for a few mintues. The ladies gave her a sucker and she was fine. She fell asleep in the car on the way home. when she was 10, she wanted her ears pierced a second time. It was very hard for her to take care of them and didn't want me to do it for her. She cried all the time because they hurt her ears. She eventually let them close up. Now she is 12 and wants to try again. I am waiting it out.
When babies are younger, they don't remeber the pain and generally adjust to it. When my daughter was around 3, she would prodly show off her pierced ears.

Me and my cousin did our girls right after their 1st set of shots. That way, they are too young to pull at the earrings because their ears may hurt for a couple days after. Be careful to watch her closely for a couple days after so she won't pull at them. You might also wan't to give her a dose of Tylenol a half hour before and keep it going the 1st day or 2 just to ease the pain. Also, make sure there are 2 people to do it at the same time to get it all over with at one shock. That is how both my girls were done at piercing pagoda. Good luck!

My girls have been wanting to have their done for a few years. They currently are 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 yo. They have never been SURE they wanted it done, until recently. My 3 1/2 yo dd got hers done, but my 5 1/2 yo changed her mind at the last minute - too afraid of the pain. There was only one person working at the time we did it, or I would have had two people do it, so both ears could be done at once. She did cry, and they were sore for a few days after, but she is very proud of them now. She was able to pick out her own earrings and liked that. My 5 1/2 yo feels sad that she can't get herself to do it. When we had it done, the lady doing it said she MUCH prefers to do babies ears, it is easier on them. I wanted to wait for them to decide they wanted it done, since it is a hole in their own body, and they understand the need to take care of them. JMO
