There are lots of "recipes" out there for ear oil like this one:

Most of the websites say to be careful how severe the ear infection is
Good luck
I was wondering how to make ear oil for my dd that has an ear infection, dr gave us RX but I wanted to wait to try something else first. I heard that you use garlic.. but how.
I want to make this at home. So please be specific on how to do this
How do you know when the ear infection is gone since I can't see in there? Do I have to take her back to the dr?
Thanks! I want her to feel better soon!

Hi A., As a mother of nine, I have used alot of home remedies. The best one and it is still being used by my children on their kids..and it is this... I put an onion in the blender with about a tablespoon of water and pulse it until it is like soup. I then put it in a coffee filter to strain..To this I add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil to the onion drippings.. the onion and garlic act as a healing and pain reliever and a antibiotic.. I put this in a bottle with a dropper and put a few drops in the ear.( I usually warm it by putting the bottle in warm water). I hope this helps. good luck.
Garlic oil is very effective for ear infections, but the earlier you start, the better. If the ear infection is bad, you may want to consider giving her the prescription medicine now and be prepared to use garlic oil right away if you see that she is getting another infection.
This is what I do:
Peel 2 cloves of garlic, cut off a bit of each end and poke them with a fork a couple of time. Put two ounces of olive oil into a small container. Add the garlic and cover. The strength will increase the longer the garlic sits, but you can use it right away because even the olive oil itself will help. You don't want to make a large portion at one time because it will go rancid.
I also alternate garlic oil drops with hydrogen peroxide every two hours for the first two days. The garlic oil has an antibacterial effect (as well as antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic!) and the hydrogen peroxide bubbles up and helps to clean out the waste.
Good luck, and best wishes for her speedy recovery!
I don't have a home recipe, but the ear drops sold at the coops or natural foods stores only cost around $10, so you may want to try one. The important part of the oil is the MULLEIN - it is an herb with topical anesthetic properties to help with any pain your little one is feeling. The garlic is an antimicrobial and will not do any harm, but there it is unclear how much of it actually crosses the tympanic membrane (ear drum) to get to where the infection is. So, my recommendation is to get an oil with both garlic and mullein. Hope this helps -
You can purchase garlic oil softgels. I use the garlic oil for ear aches and it works great. All you need to do is pierce the softgel with a pin and gently squeeze the oil into the ear. It works almost immediently. I do reccommend laying down on the side not treated or the oil may run out. The only drawback in the treatment is you may smell garlic for a few hours. I have never had anyone complain though that I smell like garlic.
Please give her the RX... if you wait and try some other source to treat you could endanger her hearing. I have first hand proof. I am now almost totally deaf from chronactic ear infections that were not treated correctly as a child.
I think you crush a clove of garlic and put it in a little olive oil and leave it (I don't know how long, and I wonder if this is something that should be made up before the actual ear infection sets in. I know you don't want to delay treatment even one extra minute) and then strain the oil to use. I actually bought a wonderful product (one of its ingredients is garlic oil--can you get some of that and just add a little to some olive oil?) called D-89-1 ear drops. It is made by Dynamic Nutritional Associates, Inc. I bought it from my chiropractor. I don't know where else you can get it.
I want to second the opinion of those who are saying not to look at this as some second-rate treatment. I think it's a little funny to say you should use the prescription because you want to get rid of the infection quickly. This oil makes my little ones feel better almost immediately, and I have never had a prescription that did that. Then, whenever they complain at all, I just put more in. You can't lose. It makes them feel better right away and kills the infection soon after. Or if it isn't an ear infection, it does no harm. As for knowing when the infection is gone, I go by their reaction. If they are happy, they probably don't have one. I have never missed one that needed treated by using that measure, and I've been parenting for...well, a long time.
Hi A.,
My 15 ds woke up with an ear ache at 2am, wasn't up for the ear oll then but did have him take ibroprophen, echinacia, and use a heating pad. I'll have to check what others say about ear oil.

I would use the prescription the doctor gave you. The faster you get rid of the infection the better. Prolonging an infection with the possibility of something else working can lead to more problems, like a ruptured ear drum...not to mention they are painful. Since she is in her speech aquisition period ridding her of that infection quickly is key.
Then use what your Doctor gave you!
We use Hylands Ear drops. They work GREAT. They are relatively cheap (about $10) and we've been using the same bottle on our 2 kids for 4 years now...
Although we also bring our kids to the chiropractor whenever they get an ear infection too. That combination has worked every time!!! I've filled their prescriptions from the regular doc a couple times but have NEVER given them to the kids yet!!!
Don't let anyone scare you into giving your child prescription drugs. Go to the chiropractor. That is a great first step!!! They may even be able to give you extra recomendations. Our 2 kids have been going to the chiropractor since newborn. Our sone was only 12 hours old for his first visit!!! They are EXTREMELY helpful with all kinds of different things. (Ear infections, runny noses, colds, kids not sleeping well, potty accidents, aches and pains, etc.)
Good luck.
