My 14 month old has had 3 ear infections in 3 months. Two of which he has been on two different types of medication. I went to day for the 4th ear infection and asked for tubes. His father and his fathers oldest son both had tubes put in. I am so frustrated with the doctor. The meds he is put on give him a terrible diaper rash and make him bleed it is so bad. I told him doctor this and they said they will see him back in 2 weeks and if it is still around he can get the shot and tubes. Any one else been through this kind of thing?? Please help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

HE IS ON THE OMNIFEC RIGHT NOW AND HAS BEEN ON IT BEFORE. HE HAS ALSO BEEN ON AMOXICILLIN AND SOME OTHER SOMETHING. I JUST HOPE THAT THIS DOES THE TRICK. I DON'T WANT TO DO THE TUBES BUT FEEL IT WILL BE THE ONLY WAY HE WILL GET RELEIF. I AM GOING TO GIVE THE OMNIFEC THE 2 WEEKS AND IF THEN IT IS NOT ANY BETTER I AM GOING TO DO THE TUBES ROUTE. I DON'T WANT TO GO OVER THE DOCTOR SINCE I DO REALLY LIKE THEM AND VALUE THEIR OPINIONS BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. SO I WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.

Update 2

We are on our way to the ENT soon. He had to get the recession (spelling ?) shots, 2 of them.

My daughter did a homeopathic remedy on my grandson last week. I couldn't believe that it actually worked. It is painful at first, but about 10 min later he was playing like nothing ever happened. It had to be done one more time before the night was through, but no antibiotics!
All she did was cut open a garlic pill and drop about 3 drops in his ear. Then she held a warm wash cloth over his ear.
Like I said, 10 min later he was fine. I hope this works for you.

Hi ~ My name is M. and I own an all natural bath, body and wellness business call Everything Bath. I have an all natural aromatherapy blend for children suffering from ear infections. My son had an ear infection at 1 wk old and was put on antibiotics. 2 days later he got a rash and was allergic.. this happened 3x's w/ 3 different antibiotics. This prompted me to make a blend for him and since then he hasn't been to the doctor with an illness for 3 years. I hand blend and create all my blends here in my office in Indianapolis. Hi J.,
Have you tried Chiropractic? Most likely he is subluxated and which may be the cause of his irritability and discomfort. What a lot of parents end up not realizing about ear infections that most of the time a child will have one and us parents will not know it but will clear up on it's own. A child gets sick far more than an adult obviously and is severe at glance because their body is developing an immunity to it. Plus we hate to see our kids with even a sniffle. Docs are here to leviate us of our pain and not always have our best interest in mind. Most medicine does not cure, it only masks our symptoms. If a childs body is allowed to process the virus/infection and heal it their immunity to it is getting stronger. Don't get me wrong...there is always a time and place for medicine. Us parents are to quick to seek that immediate cure. Here is a link you can go to that just gives a little info about ear infections and helping parents in making an informed decision about medicating. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/08/science/08drug.html?ex=...

Fever: kills the bacteria & virus. Slows down reproduction of virus & bateria. Speeds up chemical reactons in the body to fight infection & get the body back to normal. Promotes the production of cancer fighting agent interferon.
Diarrhea: Elimination of poisons, bacteria & germs from your blood.(diarrhea isn't fun but shouldn't be stopped..but within reason obviously)
Couphing,Sneezing & Running Nose: expellation of excess germs & toxins. Sluffing off of the old mucous lining to replace it with a newer healthy one.
There was once a doctor who went on the Morning Show talking about over the counter medicines for kids. You should try to google it...very interesting. If you have more questions and to help you always make an informed decision, you can check out nvic.org I hope you do not think I am trying to harp on you. Only reitterating that you are a wonderful mother and just reminding you of what you already know! BEST OF LUCK!!!

Hello J.,
My cousin's son had ear infection after ear infection and was about to do tubes until she was referred to go to a chiropractor. She visited a chiropractor that deals with children and he adjusted some things and he said stop apple juice for awhile till the child developes proper ear drainage. Apple juice contains bacteria that could cause ear infections. He also said put your child on Culturelle (which is a probiotic) or liquid acidopholous in his bottle or sippy. Probiotics are all natural and support the good bacteria that helps eliminate bad bacteria in you body. I work for HerbalRemedies.com and we sell all different kinds of probiotics. My daughter had several ear infections along with MSPI(milk soy protein intolerance) and we discussed tubes until I put her on probiotics and she has been fine since she is now 3. Good luck and let me know if I can help. H. B

I am in the pediatric profession and see this ALL the time. Today, call an ear, nose, and throat specialist and make an appointment. You don't need a referral and it sounds like your baby needs TE tubes and some releif....good luck.

I would find the nearest ENT doctor and have tubes put in. I had to have tubes put in my 3 year olds ears. The doctor didn't seem concerned at all, so I went to the ENT and he hasn't had any infections. It's not good for kids to be on antibiotics all the time, it kills good bacteria with the bad. Try to see if he will eat yogurt. It has aspedofulous(not sure of spelling, I think it is a live bacteria)

Hi J.-
I'm going through the same thing. My 1 year old son has had three ear infections in about 8 weeks. (I think it has been infected the entire time). The second time we were at the doc I was told the infection had gotten so bad that there were boils developing on his eardrums. He was put on three different antibiotics. The third one called Omnicif is actually working. His doctor also mentioned tubes, but I am hoping that we wont have to go there. I'm not to keen on the idea on him going under anestisia. Try mentioning Omnicif to your doc. It might work!!!!!

My 10-month-old just had tubes put in after her fourth ear infection. She also had several types of antibiotics and even two rounds of rocephin shots. The tubes made a world of difference. We went to ENT Specialites in Lincoln and saw Dr. Mueller. Can you forgo your pediatrician and call an ENT doctor directly?

As far as helping, try elevating his head when he sleeps. Ear infections can delay speech development, too. My daughter failed her hearing test when we had her first consultation.

It sounds to me like you are getting the run a round from your doctor. I would take him some place else for a second opinion. You have got to be your child's advocate. If you are not happy with the answers or results you are receiving then it is time to ask for another doctors opinion. I went through this with my second child and we finally got a doctor to tell us that it was not that he was having ear infections so much as his adinoids were infected. They came out and all is good. If it had not been for a friend reminding me to be my child's advocate and get a second opinion then we would not have resolved the problem.
