yes! I'm 58 and anytime I take amoxicillin; I get a yeast infection. I just buy the ovules, they takee care of it right away. The amoxicillin, I believe is worth it.
I have not experienced a yeast infection yet, but I was wondering if anyone's children have gotten a yeast infection from taking amoxicillin. My daughter is getting over an ear infection and she is taking amoxicillin. She has been on it for a week now and seems to be getting better, but the pharmacist told us to keep her on it for 10 days.
Any information on this is greatly appreciated!
Well fortunately my daughter did not get a yeast infection, and her ear infection has completely cleared up! Thank you for all of your responses. They were all very much appreciated!

Poor kid. The yeast infection can hurt worse than the ear infection (I have had both) A yeast infection is because the medication is killing good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria. The good bacteria is essential in keeping the most sensitive of area (the vulva) good and healthy. Every time a child is on amoxicillin (or similar meds) they need to find a way to replace the good backteria. Go to any health food store and get probiotics or acidoliphis (not sure if I am spelling that right) Just ask the person working at the health food store that your child in on amoxicillin and you want to advoid a yeast infection. They will point you in the right direction.
Yogurt also has acidolphlis in it.
Your daughter may be too young to drink cranberry juice, but generally as a precaution I give my kids cranberry juice when they take amoxicillin. Seems to help....
yes my daughter who is three has gotten them twicw when on antibiotics
First off take ALL of the antibiotic. Otherwise you will be back on them within a week. Antibiotics work by wiping out the immune system and replacing its job. Then your body rebuilds its immune system. So, if you stop taking the antibiotics before the end of the course your body is left defenseless and open to any and all germs.
Yes, a lot of children get a yeast infection while on antibiotics. I have found that if I give my daughter acidophilus whilst she is taking the antibiotic it wards off a yeast infection. You can get them at the grocery store. They come in little caplets. I break the caplet open and put it in an apple sauce and have her eat it.
Good luck with your little one.
Yes, it can be quite common. Depending on how old your child is, you can offer her yogurt to eat every day that she is on the antibiotics to help avoid one (after age 1.) It is extremely important to finish the entire dose of the antibiotics, even if she is feeling better.
My son constantly suffered with ear infections as a toddler, he never got a yeast infection from the medicine. It is very important to keep taking the medicine or else the infection can come back
Give her a probiotic made for babies/toddlers. I use Primadophilus. The doctor told me to double up on the dosage when he was taking a strong antibiotic. When he got better, I just kept him on it, and he has never had a diaper rash since. You can find them in the refrigerated section at Henry's, Mother's Market or any whole foods stores. It comes in powder and liquid form. Hope this helps!
Dear D.,
Just be sure that you keep her on the medicine for 10 days and don't miss any doses. No kidding, it is very important.

My daughter had repetitive ear infections and ended up getting tubes. Along the way she did suffer from a few yeast infections. My doctor prescribed an ointment, but I am told that you can help by limiting sugar intake while on antibiotics (yeast feeds off of sugar)and you can give your daughter probiotics foods like yogurt. Probiotics can also be found at your local healthfood store, this is the road I chose with my daughter and it helped. Be sure not to give the probiotics with or too close to the meds or they may negate the benefits of her meds. You should ask your pediatrician too they feel about the use of probiotics with her meds. Good luck!
This is a very, very, very common side affect to Amoxicillin. Talk to your doctor about any topical creams you can give your child to help clear up the yeast infection. She needs to stay on anitbiotics for the ear infection, so don't take her off. but now, she will also require an anti-fungal to clear up the yeast infection. some people recomend using the standard over the counter yeast infection creams that you can get in any drug store, but i believe that your daughter is too young for this, so get a perscription anti-fungal from your doctor. and for future referance, sometimes they will grow out of this type of side affect, but in most cases, the child will continue to have this reaction for the rest of their life. it is not an allergic reaction, but a common side affect of the antibiotic. next time your daughter gets sick, ask your doctor for a different kind of medication, if possible, to avoid this side affect.
Hello D. M,
I am a retired Family Child Care Provider after 38 years. A mother of three and grandmother of six. I have cared for many children with ear infections, and it is best to keep you child on the 10 days of amoxicillin, the infection may come back if you take her off before the required treatment. As for the yeast infection, if this

Hello D., My daughter who just turned one has never gotten a yeast infection for taking amoxicillian. The first time she was given amoxicillan was when she was 5 days old and she took that for 10 days and she was fine. My sister's daughter who is 3 months older than my daughter has also been on that medicine and has never had a problem. I hope that helps.
It is not uncommon for anyone to get a yeast infection while on antibiotics. If she is really irritated, you can buy acidopholis(live bacteria that gets rid of yeast) at a health food store and mix it with water and splash her vagina with it. I would take her to the doctor if it doesn't go away in the next week. They are very uncomfortable.....
you should probably do what the dr prescribed you to do. you want to make sure that the infection goes away or she'll just end up having to go back on meds because the infection didn't clear up completely. :-)
