Ear

My son is almost 3 and he has been complaining that noise hurts his ears. He isn't afraid of loud noises, such as the vacuum or fireworks, etc. He sticks both fingers in his ears and says that everything is loud when it isn't. When he was a newborn he couldn't pass his hearing test in his left ear until the day I was ready to bring him home. I am beginning to worry, but don't know exactly how worried I should be.

What can I do next?

He's sounding more "sensitive" child than, anything physical. Pretty typical for 3 yr olds.

E.,

Welcome to mamapedia!!

You need to take your son to an ENT and have his hearing tested and see what is going on.

Good luck!

He may just be sensitive to noise but you should not assume anything when it comes to hearing. Have him seen by the doctor to rule out physical reasons.

Maybe an ear infection? Perhaps the pain is causing him to think it's noise that is bothering him. My dd used to cry when anyone coughed. She also hated vacuum cleaners. She got over it when she was older.

My son had chronic ear infections, then at three had ear tubes put in. Once the fluid was able to drain from behind his ears he suddenly was annoyed by loud noises.

Tine for a test with an Audiologist and/or Ped. ENT, better to KNOW than to wonder & worry!

Best!
