Hi Moms,
I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I have e-coli bacteria. No symptoms, no pain but urine test shows since I was 10 weeks pregnant that this bacteria don't wont to live me.My doctor grue a culture for antibiotics sensitivity and prescribe me Kefllex for 7 days but...it didn't work than another antibiotic Augmentin but this one I didn't take because it never worked for me in the pass for different illnesses.I start doing research on my on drink a lot of cranberry juice, water, took probiotic fem -dofilus by Jerrow and nothing worked. My doctor recommend another antibiotic Bectrum but was scared to take because it's category C and very little research done on pregnant women so the doctor went back to Kefllex but stronger dose 1600mg for 10 days. Before i take them i want to ask maybe one of you had this problem? If antibiotic wont work the doctor said I have to the hospital and they will give me antibiotic true iv.Now I'm so worry that for the baby its to much to handle at this stage and what will be the outcome? Please, if any of you can share your story I will appreciate very much.Thank you.

What can I do next?

I never had this issue, but it really got me curious. Take a look at these two sites.
The second one has a great list of references. From the looks of it, it rarely spreadst to the baby and is mostly an issue if it continues into the third trimester. . .

I wouldn't be as worried at the antibiotics as I would the bacteria. The bacteria can eat your baby's brain. Sorry not to scare you but you can loose your baby from the bacteria not from the antibiotic. I would've tried the augmenting too. If u have to do if antibiotics I would get in there and do everything I could to save this baby. Have you redone undone test and have you had the urine taken from as catheter clean catch?

My husband battled e-coli for a while after a prostate biopsy, he was hospitilized 2 times and he was send home with 2 diffrent oral meds before it finally was over. It was touch and go for a while and he was even scheduled for the IV treatment. But thankfully he did not need it. Listen, e-coli is no joke and you carry a baby on top of it. Now if IV antibitics is what you need to get rid of it then do it. There is good reason to play the hero here because e-coli kills.

Never had that but just because a med does not work for one illness does not mean it will not work for something else. I would have taken the Augmentin. You might ask the dr if you can take probiotics with the antibiotic. I have heard it both ways that's why I say ask a professional. But if you can't take them till you are done with the meds take them right away. They help put back the good bacterias that you need to help your body fight.

Good luck and God Bless!!!
