This conference is for educators, parents of children with dyslexia and other interested community memebers. The website has all of the conference info.

I have a daughter with dyslexia as well. I have to say it has been quite a struggle and a heart ache. I have been homeschooling for about 14 years, so have been devastated not being able to teach daughter 4 to read. She is in 6th grade and is quite intelligent. Therefore, her inability to read has nothing to do with intelligents. I have recently started a program call Spell to Write and Read along with The Wise Guide. I researched this product extensively before purchasing. It is quite daunting for the teacher, but is supposed to be quite effective for the student. I am still in the process of figuring it out, so can not give you results, but I am quite hopeful.

Have you checked with Child Find (I think that's the name). It's through APS & it's different programs for those in need (low income families that need preschool AND "disabilities" - such as speech therapy). They might have a program for dyslexia. Or try the doctor that diagnosed it. Hope that helps.
The Southwest Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (SWIDA) has many resources available to parents including FAQ's and a referral database for related service providers. Academic Language Therapists are extensively trained in remediation techniques that benefit individuals with dyslexia. If you choose to explore this option, the SWIDA database has several trained therapists listed.

On Saturday, February 6th, Susan Barton, an expert in dyslexia and AD/HD will speak at the Corbett Center Auditorium on the campus of NMSU. The presentation begins at 2pm. Ms. Barton will speak for 3 hours and the event is free.
