Yeah, there is a DVR thing that you can get without cable. I saw it at Wal-mart. You buy the box but then it's a monthly fee to use it. I forgot the name.
We have what AV was talking about. We bought a Roku for $50 (it's this little box you plug into your tv and you can stream) and then we also have a Wii on our other tv. We pay $7.99 a month for Netflix, $9.99 a month for Hulu Plus, and then I'm on my mom's Amazon Prime (which is $79 a year) so we have Amazon Instant Video. Plus there's some other free channels we downloaded (like PBS Kids, Vudo, Crackle, etc).
And we have the middle of the road speed internet which everything streams just fine. Even when one of us is on the Roku, another on the Wii, and another on the computer watching any of the applications.
So for all of that we pay just under $30 bucks a month (including internet). As opposed to the almost hundred bucks a month we were paying before for cable.
And the few shows we can't find on the applications, we just go to the network's website and watch the shows there.
I totally recommend ditching cable in favor of Roku, Netflix, and Hulu Plus.
