this is a really stupid question. I think our TV that we got from a relative has a DVR for recording shows and watching later, but I can't ask the relative and I don't know how to find out or use the feature if we have it. Its Hdef TV and we have dish network.

can anyone tell me how to use it ?

What can I do next?

dish remotes have a button that says "DVR" Push that to see what happens.

Also, you can watch channel 101 or about there and it will explain everything about Dish and DVRs in 30 min.

The DVR feature will be through your cable or satellite provider, and you have to request that service. Check your dishnetwork bill.

Yup. DVR doesn't come with a television... It comes through your service provider.

If you have it, you should be able to go into your menu, and select DVR settings. There should also be a button on your remote actually labeled DVR.

Do you have a Dish Network package that includes DVR? Not every package does. I've never heard of a tv that has a DVR. I've only heard of DVR through your cable or satellite company.

Dish Network's DVR is really easy to use. We have Direct TV now, so it's been awhile since I used Dish. There should be a button on your remote that displays what is on tv. If you scroll through the shows and see one you'd like to record, push "ok." There should be an option to record that episode or record the series. You'll have to play around with it, but you'll get the hang of it. Also, the customer service is usually pretty good, so you could call the 800 number.

There could be another way to get DVR service. I'm just not familiar with it.

DVR is not part of the TV, it's a feature of the cable box. My cable box remote control has DVR-related buttons. Look for DVR on your Dish stuff. Or call Dish (assuming Dish is your cable provider) and ask if you can sign up for DVR. DVR is an extra cost on my cable bill, I had to sign up to be able to use it.

ETA: If you mean that you used to see your relative using DVR, and now that you've got their old TV you figured you could use DVR also - that's not how it works...if your relative used DVR it was because your relative paid for that service from their cable company (for me, it's Time Warner - I went to Time Warner and requested a cable box with DVR function, and then I connected that cable box to my TV).

Push the red button on your remote. The ones that go across the lower half...red, yellow, green, blue. Red shows access to the DVR on mine. If you switch through the channels there is also an information channel. They tell you how to do stuff over and over and over and over 24 hours per day.

Look for the type of tv, and google it. You should be able to find instructions online. I've done that for electronics when I've lost the instructions.

I'm sure somewhere on the back is the make and model of the TV - most electronics have manuals available on line that you can look up.
