Sorry, this is probably dumb but we are trying to sell an old car that we have and I cannot find the title anywhere! I have no idea where to even begin to get a new title. I was thinking the county's clerk and recorder but I am thinking they only deal with license plate registration. Where should I go?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! I went to the DMV's website and I found a form for a duplicate title request and instructions on what to do! Thanks Mamas!

Call DMV, they should have the answers you need. One hint, if they can't take care of it over the phone go to the office late in the afternoon, about 15 minutes before closing time if you can. They have to let you in and they want to go home on time so you are in and out quickly.

Your local DMV should have records or give you advice.

Sounds like your going to have to file for a lost title. Go to the department of motor vehicles or the tag office. Not sure what they call it where you are.
Good Luck!

Been there, done that. Your County clerk can print a duplicate title. I even ordered mine online. These days most government agencies have almost everything online.

You can always call the country clerk's office, explain your need, and ask whom you should talk to. I bet you won't be the first person to ask them the question!

Not a dumb question. I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get a title. An appraisal from a dealership, had to visit a state trooper for VIN number check, Apply at motor vehicles for new title. I feel like there is more to it but there were many things to consider.
