My dryer decided to stop playing today so I have to get a new one. It's been 8 yrs and with all the changes out there I'm not sure if I should be looking for something special other than a box that dries clothes!

So, if you love, or hate!, your dryer, let me know and why. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

We have a Maytag Centennial and knock on wood, it's been a good dryer. Can do auto-sensor drying or choose to dry by time or temp. It's traditional style, not a fancy new kind that needs to go on a pedestal. Just bought it a couple years ago, so the model should still be available.

My dryer is ok - it's a front loader - wouldn't recommend it or not recommend it. But what I do like about it is that it has functionality that senses when the clothes are dry and turns it off then. It's much better than just setting a time or heat level and letting it go - I found my old dryer dried for way too long and just kept heating up the already dry clothes.

It's esp nice if you wash area rugs with rubber bottoms (I have quite a few that need regular washing b/c I have a 3 yo boy who uses the toilet on his own...). They last so much longer because the dryer isn't ruining the rubber and drying it out.

We have a Fridgidaire and I cannot stand it! It eats clothes and I don't mean socks go missing...I mean, it has ripped buttons of, busted drawstrings and even started to eat collars of shirts and corners of towels. My husband pulled it apart to clean and see what the heck the problem is and he found where the drum is warped thus allowing clothes to get into the gap. No way to fix it at this point. Additionally, the temperature setting is so busted too. We will put in on low and when we have to open it up because it is eating clothes (you can hear a thumping when it is happening) you can smell how hot it is. The lint trap is worthless as I have to vacuum out more from the bottom of it than is actually caught in the mesh. While it still works (we don't use it if we aren't home) we are looking into a new one because it is just starting to ruin things.

I can't wait until the day my drier quits working. I don't know what I'll replace it with, but I know what I'll be looking for: An effective lint filter. My current 7 year old Whirlpool drier lets way too much stuff through. Then it piles up in the bottom of the drier. Lots of sand and lint down there. I have to use a mini grabber to pick it out, teaspoon by teaspoon. No other way to get it out.

Do NOT buy an LG!!! Not only are they super expensive, but only a handful of techs are trained to repair them AND if you need parts, they have to be mailed from Japan or China and it takes WEEKS! Good luck!

I like my washer and dryer, they're both Kenmore front loaders. My dryer also does the auto-turn off when the clothes are dry (probably required to get the energy star rating). It's been going strong for 5 years so far, no issues yet!
