I suspect it's roseola...which you can do nothing about aside from control the fever. It is very contageous however...but usually that stage is before the rash even appears, so there's no way to know you're spreading it to others.
We reciently returned from a vacation in southern California and a few days after we got home my almost 3 year old daughter got a really dry skin type of rash over her whole body. She has always had great skin. Then yesterday she just out of the blue wasn't feeling good and got a fever of 102, it has gone down but still pretty warm. i usually try to let a fever rid her body of what ever is going on but there seems to be no other symptoms. though she does have a cavity and I am wondering if that could cause the fever ot if it has something to do with the rash??? She got hand foot and mouth disease this time last year and that was the only time she has had a fever like this.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
So the fever only lasted the night and half of the next day, gone now. the dry skin is going away. I am thinking it might of been from the sunscreen i used, the continuous spray it has alchol in it and that drys skin out. That was the first time we have used it. Anyhow thank you all for the feedback. My kids always suprise me with how well they fight off stuff, it seems as soon as I get worried they get better.
thanks again, M.

It’s very consistent when children have a fever to also get a rash. Usually they get the fever first, then the rash but it can happen the other way round as well. This is a healthy response. The rash is a sign of the body purging itself of something. It is a general immune amplification. Probably best to leave it alone and it will clear. Good luck.
I am writing in the name of my friend Dr. Rhonda Emmert.D.C., B.A,. Nutrition. She is a chiropractor and her work is in the arena of psychoneuroimmunology, with special interest in children's health.
I know her answser is a bit after the fact, but thought I would share it with you anyway. good luck M.

I suggest taking her to the doctor. It sounds like it could be fifth disease and if it is, it is EXTREMELY important that you be careful not to catch since you are pregnant and it can cause problems for your fetus.
Hoping it's something less scary...
when ever you go a long distance your body reacts we did the same thing and it always happens don't worry it will go away in a couple of days some people get chapped lips or fun fevers when we moved to Colorado my boys temp got to 103 and it was because the air is different just keep here cool untill she back to normal
my friens daughter and my son both have the exact same thing going on, it's called rosieola (probably misspelled, sorry) It goes away on it's own. If in a few days the fever doesn't subside then I would take her in but noth our dr.'s told us just to ride it out and that it isn't painfull...it's just a type of virus.
Anytime a rash is accompanied by a fever you need to call a doctor right away!
Could be Roseola... Take her in to see the Pediatrician.
If the tooth was infected enough to cause a fever, she would probably be complaining of pain. I would get that cavity filled as soon as you can so you can avoid capping the tooth and the possibility of anesthesia.
Take care!
You just went on vacation...she could have picked up a bug anywhere. Viruses can take 4-6 days to manifest in the body. I would not worry about it till the fever has been there for three days above 101, then call the Dr.
The rash could be dry skin from the change in weather and water between Southern Cal and here. Try using a little Baby Aveno lotion after a bath. Guessing is hard to do, but trust your instincts.
M. (beautiful name, btw),
Call the doctor! Neither full body rashes nor fevers that high should be taken lightly. Pediatricians and pediatric nurses expect to get these types of calls, so don't feel the need to minimize what's going on. Call now!!! You certainly don't want to still be dealing with this two weeks from now!

My daughter had that. She had a rash all over her body first. It almost looked like a allergic reaction. I treated it with benadryl and called the doctor immediatly. They saw her right away. I later found out after I got there she had a fever. It turned out to be a virus. Some kids gets rashes with fevers. Give benadryl and tylonal and it too shall pass after a few days. The rash went away with the benadryl. I would go and have her checked to make sure nothing else is going on. It sounds like a virus. Good luck. Any questions just contact me. /M. petersen
My son had similar symptoms around the same age. I was told that he had an allergic reaction to the virus that he had caught. And the way they could tell that the rash was due to an allergic reaction is that it starts in the center of the body (trunk) and moves its way out through the limbs over the course of a day or two. My son is now 13, and it never happened again, but that was one of those interesting dr. tidbits i always remembered.
I'm not a doctor, but can tell you that there is something going around with fevers of about 102. They come and go over a week or so, with no other symptoms. Two of my kids had it, and I got it as well. According to our doctor it is just some sort of cold virus that is going around.
Does she have a sore or red throat? Could be Scarlet fever. Usually the rash comes after the fever. Scarlet fever is just a strep throat with a rash. Is she still sick?
In my experience most fever related rashes come after the fever has passed. This is normally the case with roseola and hand, foot and mouth. My kids have had both and in both cases the fever comes first and then afterward they get horrible rashes. Roseola isn't over the entire body unless it is a very severe case. It normally starts at the neck and travels down the trunk of the body. But not on the arms and legs. And it looks like a splotchy rose pattern. Hand foot and mouth is normally confined to those three areas. I would call the doctor and see what they think. I always error on the side of caution and take my kids in to the doctor if I don't know what they have.
