What I often do is put a 3-5 gallon stock pot on the stove on low and keep it going. It should be a temp that keeps it at a low simmer. This puts steam into your house air. It also sets up a hazard if you have small kids that might pull it off so make sure it's on the back burner and that the cabinets overhead are not getting to hot.
Take several hot steamy showers per day. This not only puts direct moisture in your sinuses and lungs it also rinses off any allergens that are on your body, face, and hair.
Go to the local mom and pop pharmacy, not Walgreens or Walmart. But a personal family type pharmacy. Ask them if they carry Children's Liquid Sudafed. I buy mine at one. It is still made. I get mine in a pint size plastic bottle and I buy a 4 oz bottle that seals well to carry some in my purse. I had them copy the label off and put it on the smaller bottle so if something happens to me they'd know what was in the bottle.
I take about 3/4 to 1 teaspoon when my nose is especially dry. This makes the mucus more runny and I can blow it out. It also makes the sticky goo in my throat go away/go down/couch out since it is making the sticky goo runny again..
If they don't carry it then just keep calling all the local pharmacies. I do know that Walmart and Walgreens only get what their buyers say they can have. They do not believe it is made if they don't see it on their list. It is made though. I buy a bottle every couple of months. I just bought one the other day.
I use the Children's Liquid version because it gives me more control over how much medication I take into my body. If I am really congested I take a full teaspoon, that is 1/2 adult dose. I never take the full 2 teaspoons because I get relief with half a dose. If I am a little congested I only take 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon. If I don't need more I don't have to take a full pill that is a predetermined dose that is more than I need.
Most pharmacies do carry straight up Sudafed if you ask for it in pill form but make sure it is NOT the fake stuff. That stuff is nasty and makes my heart palpitate and still does not clear my nose and make the mucus runny.
I had bought a double bottle thing of Nyquil and took a full adult dose of it one night. I was up all night with heart palpitations and my nose never cleared up. I read the label the next morning and they had taken the Sudafed out and started using the fake Sudafed. It was one of the worse nights ever.
