My son went through one large can in about five days when he was that age. You might want to take rice cereal with you as well. Good luck and congrats!
Hi all,
This week, I'm going to p.u my adopted child in another country. I'm wondering do you
think one large can of dry fomula will last for the week? This will have to include a lengthy flight back to the US. She is 5 mo. old. Basically I'm asking how far does one large can of dry formula usually go? Or should I take one large and one small?
Thank you for the good advice. I will take a large and small can of formula. I also will
go to Target and purchase the formula containers. I really appreciate your input.

HI L.,
congratulations!!.how exciting, my 6 month old does go thru a little over one large can, I'm just wondering are you planning on bringing the same formula that she is already on or another kind?..sorry if this a dumb question, I just know my son suffered thru regular formula w/ iron he had horrible stomach pains, the first couple of months, I switched him to soy and w/in a week he was sleeping so much better, just making sure she isn't completely going from one type to another... with that said well wishes, good luck in your travles...
First of all, congratulations....how exciting for you!
I just had my second son on June 1 and by I believe it was Thursday or Friday, we had already gone through on large can of formula. At 5 months old, your daughter may already be eating food, too and maybe not drinking at much as a newborn, but I would rather be safe than sorry and would take extra.
Good luck!

First, congradulations on your new duaghter. I would say one can should be enough. But I would pack a little one as well, just in case. Better safe than sorry. And again, congrats on your baby girl.
Hi L. -
My 8-month-old son drinks about 22 oz. of formula each week and one can of dry formula lasts 8 days. Hope that helps!
L.,
Congrats.
We can get through a week and 1/ with a big can.. But i would take one big and a small one just to be safe..
Hi L.,
I think one big can should be enough. You may want to check with the airline to make sure they won't make you throw out the formula. We just flew last month and security made me throw out the water that I needed to make my bottle. I had the formula in a small tupperware container so they didn't make me throw that out. If you are carring a big container they might make you toss it. Good luck and congrats.

Hi L. :o)
I'm reading my emails in backwards order or I would have answered here for you first. Always take extra, ALWAYS. and make sure you pack it in your carry on. I know it's going to be heavy, but its better than taking the chance it gets lost.
L.
Take 2 just to be on the safe side. You are unfamiliar with her eating habits and we do waste a lot of formula as well. Better safe than sorry. Also on the plane you are going to want her to be drinking a bottle to prevent ear popping! Good Luck and Congratulations!
Hi L. -
Congrats!! One 13oz (or there abouts) can of powdered formula would last me about 3 days (maybe a little less) when I was making 5-6, 8oz bottles a day.
If you read on the can, I think it says somewhere on the back how much liquid it makes. You might check that and divide by the number of ounces in each feeding, and the number or feedings a day to help better approximate how much you need to bring.
Hope this helps

Hi L.,
First of all congratulations. What an exciting time for you and your family. I would say you should take one large and one small, just to be on the safe side. It's better to have to much then not enough. Best of Luck. S. T
Hi there, I would agree, with taking more rather than less. But don't be surprised if she won't accept the formula you buy. I recently read an article about over seas adoption, and one of the families had a hard time transfering to a different type of formula, since the usa didn't have the same kind that the baby was used to. So you might want to plan a little money into your budget so that you can bring back the kind she is on over there so that you aren't trying to change foods when traveling.
L.,
On one hand I think one large can would be plenty, but on the other hand, I also wouldn't want to risk it... my son is 7 months old and goes through more than one large can in a week - maybe like a can and a half, he does eat quite a lot for his age and I'm thinking that your little girl probably won't eat as much, especially considering that she is younger than my little guy - each child is different. When making your decision, keep in mind that sometimes you will make a 6 oz. bottle and she will only drink 4 oz. and you will have to throw away the remaining 2 oz. If you don't know how she eats exactly, I think I would recommend that you bring one large and one small just to be safe because you definitely do not want to be caught without any formula when she is hungry. Hope this helps... good luck with everything and congratulations!
yeah I would say take 2 cans better to be safe than sorry, my daughter was going through a can a week about 5-7 days depending on how often she would wake at night, now that she is 6 months and eats baby food i go through a can in about 10-11 days
good luck and congrats
If I were you, I would take one of the large 25oz can and also the 13oz can just to make sure you have enough. When my daughter was that age she would go through about 6 bottles a day and each one was usually 6oz. If I remember right, the 13oz cans make around 86oz of formula. The 25oz can would last me about 5-6 days. There are really neat formula holders at Target for about $3.00. You can pre-measure the powder into the compartments that way you don't have to have the big can all of the time when you might only need a few bottles. Which might work out for your trip back. There is a pour spout so it goes right into the bottle, and creates no mess. The bottle is only good for 2 hours after it's made if it isn't refrigerated, so the container works out well for not wasting! Congrats to you and I wish you safe travels as you get your daughter!
