I ditto the suggestion to donate them to a vet clinic or animal shelter - they can always use more bedding for the animals in their care.
What do you ladies do with all your old pillows? They are EVERYWHERE! Every closet has at least 1 stuffed into it. They seem to have reproduced while down in my basement. They aren't in GREAT condition (sweat stained) so I don't think I can donate them. I am not crafty enough to do any of the things I saw when I Googled the topic (like making them into pet beds or giant floor cushions).
So what do you do? I would hate to put them in the trash.
Any crafty moms in my area want them to use for your own needs?
Awesome advice, ladies!! Thank you!
BTW, I am SOOO not a hoarder. We accumulated so many because my husband and I both had 4 pillows before we got married, then his parents moved in, they each had 3 pillows, then my SIL moved in, she had another 4, various house guests have forgotten their pillows here over the years, and then there are some mystery pillows whose origins are unknown to me ;-) I never wanted to put them in the trash, but didn't know what else to do with them, til now. I will try the idea of making new throw pillows! What a cost save to not be spending money on inserts (and we are in dire need of new throw pillows for our bland living room.)

My vets office is always looking for old pillow, blanket, towel donations. Obviously their condition is not an issue. May your vet does too?
:)
Wait! Also, Humane Society and animal shelters also want them!!
We had a bunch of old pillows and a son who needed to "crash" into things. A friend gave me some old cotton curtains, so my friend and MIL made a whole stack of pillowcases and my son suddenly had a pillow mountain in the corner of his bedroom. He LOVED it. He race in, leap, and land. Sometimes he'd burrow underneath and once in a while, I'd find him simply sprawled out with a toy or a book.
Ask if an animal hospital or shelter wants them. Animals who are lonely or recovering from surgery might be able to use them for beds.
Love the vet/animal shelter suggestions! I see many old, grubby pillows leaving our home in the near future!!!
Thanks for the question. :)
Gut all the stuffing, toss the old cases. Put the stuffing in a large zipped up fabric bag, wash it and dry it (or run the pillows through the wash before gutting them). Buy the types of covers you get for throw pillows that zip up the sides. Then put enough stuffing in an old pillowcase to be able to fold over the edge and it be square. Put it in the cover, and you have new throw pillows.
Toss them - sweat stains and bed bugs don't sound like a fun project to me!
Or, I like Theresa's idea. Then, the stains, bed bugs and fleas could have one big party.
ETA: I don't know about you, but my washing machine is not big enough for pillows. Am I the only one with a crappy old washer?! =)
Your local vet might take them. Or an animal shelter.
And I would call a women's shelter to see if they take them.
Did you know pillows can be cleaned in your washing machine?
I let the kids play with them in their "hideout" in the basement.
