Babies drop at different times but statistically 2nd babies drop closer to the time of delivery. Just watch for signs of preterm labor. If you start having contractions stop what you are doing, rest, and see if they continue. If they do continue or become stronger go to L and D so they can check you for preterm labor. You will probably deliver closer to 37 weeks than 40 weeks given your history. Also stay really hydrated and avoid all caffeine. Your uterus will be less irritable and you will have less braxton hicks.

They drop so they can roll their head all around on your bladder for the last few weeks before you deliver... they like to make your pregnancy memorable :)

My second dropped a good two months before birth.

Mine both dropped a couple of weeks prior to delivery.

And YAY, it's your second! Second babies are usually SO much easier to deliver.

I dropped almost 2 weeks ago at 36 weeks & she is still in there at 38 weeks. Sometime dropping can happen a few days before & other time up to a month before. If you are concerned call your doctor and see what they have to say... if nothing else they my give you an earlier appointment just to check to see if you have started to dialate. At 35 & 36 week I was not at all, at 37 I was 2 cm... but I'm sure I am more now, I will see Tues. Honestly, I hate the last few appointments... I hate being checked.

Also, this is my 6th - and each one I dropped at different times... and a few I didn't drop at all. All pregancies are different... the rules are just guidlines.

Congratz & I hope you have a quick & as painless as possible delivery.

I'm 37 weeks today and dropped a lot about 2 weeks ago. My doctor told me it doesn't mean the baby will be early. People drop a different times.

I don't know that the dropping necessarily means anything, unless your doc says the baby is starting to be engaged. With all three of my kiddos, they "dropped" (with varying degrees of obvious) well before birth. With all three, I started having contractions regularly about 3 weeks before birth--I would have 8 or more hours of fairly regular, every 5-7 minute contractions, only to have them stop. For some women, I know those are signs. For me, they weren't at all--which is probably what your doc woudl say too! It could be tomorrow, it could be 7 weeks from now! Good luck!
