Driving 12 Hours over 2 Days - Entertainment Tips

I should have asked this question weeks ago....
Today we are starting a 12 hour drive - I have a 4 year old and 17 mo old. The 4 year old will be happily entertained by a number of things - books, coloring, Leapster, etc. The baby though, she doesnt' like books, will only color for a few minutes before she starts eating the colored pencils (as is typical for her age) and often is only entertained in the car with eating. We had a pracitce 5 hour trip and luckily she slept for about 3 hours, but that won't be able to happen today. She likes activities where she gets to put something in and pull it out. Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas for things to entertain her? It wil just be 'us 3 girls' so no passenger to turn around, sing, get new activities, etc.
Thanks

What can I do next?

empty kleenex box with all sorts of stuff, stuffed in would be great. I'm guessing she is a little more in the pulling out stage than picking up and pushing back in.

Ifyou have any fridge magenets that are big enough not to be a choking hazard you can take a cookie sheet and give her a sock or something with the magnets in and let her stick them on the cookie sheet.

Pack some kids CD's and listen to some children's songs, that wasn't mommy's fav but it always kept mykids quiet. books on Cd are great too.

would she be ok with pipecleaners those are fun to bend and twist.

Food, toys, a portable DVD player, iPod Touch...

A "Magna Doodle" is great for coloring when they're that little, because they won't make a mess or eat the colors.

Use your 4 year old to pick up things the baby drops, give her toys, etc. Hopefully your 4 year old already knows how to buckle in, since they'll likely be picking stuff off the floor a LOT.

Consider stopping fairly early at a hotel with a pool and tire the kids out all afternoon in the pool. Get up really early and leave so that the kids are asleep the first 2-3 hours of your trip. Then stop every hour and 1/2 and run around a bit at a rest area.

Sing Songs. Look for different animals. Play games like Simon Says.

Good Luck!

Well, since you are driving about 6 hours a day, I would suggest taking frequent breaks..... every hour, maybe, and stop for 15 minutes to let the kids run around?

You are smart to break it up into two days of driving... we did 12 hours in 1 day, but there were usually 2 adults in the car, and the kids were spread out more, and could help entertain each other.

Drop by a, 'Toys R' Us' or similar store & get her some (maybe one or two) put it in & take it out toys that she can play with on the trip. You didn't say how much $$$ you have but the Leapster has ALL sorts of fun games for kidz of ALL ages...as far as her wanting to eat to be entertained, carrot sticks, etc. healthy snacky food in intervals that the 4yr old can give to them both will make her happy & she is SURE to sleep as well for some portion of the trip, if you don't have them be sure to get the shades for the windows in the back seat that will make for happier kidz...Have a wonderful, 'Girlz Trip"!

Not sure if you have access to this stuff in your house or not (since you are leaving today!), but when my little girl was younger, I made this and she loved it!
Empty and wash out a squeezable mayo container and fill it with popsicle sticks. She can practice putting the sticks in the little hole. It's good for fine motor skill practice too!
Or what about an empty kleenex box with some cute little random toys inside?
