I am having a Christmas party at our house in 2 weeks. We're serving brisket and everyone is bringing a side and their own alcohol. We will have some but didn't want to provide an "open bar" per say. I'm thinking though that I would like to have 1 or 2 "signature drinks" that's festive but will also go with brisket. Any ideas/recipes?
Also, I'll probably make an appetizer or two. What goes well with brisket (BBQ sandwiches). A lot of things I think of at Christmas time like brie or little sausage balls don't necessarily go with what we're eating.
TIA!
You could do a champagne punch. Google it for recipes. I don't have one. You could also do jello shots in christmas shapes (stars, snowmen).
For your appetizers, I have found that everyone loves a vegetable and/or fruit tray. Everything we eat is so heavy at the holidays, so it's welcome relief to have some rabbit food to choose from. I put tiny carrots, cherry tomatoes, stuffed celery, cheese chunks, sliced squash and cucumber, and olives on a tray. My husband loves to add those little Gerken pickles. It always gets scarfed up! Put little toothpicks in everything and add a bowl of light ranch dressing to the middle and set it out before dinner.
You can also do a fruit tray and just cut up your own canteloupe, melons, apples, etc. Add a little bowl of fruit dip. Put toothpicks in everything and you'll be surprised how fast it goes. Good luck! B.
I served a champagne punch that was a big hit. It's one container each of frozen concentrate lemonade, limeade and orange juice thawed and stirred together. One two liter of ginger ale stirred in. Pour equal amount of champagne(don't stir after adding champagne). Then add just enough grenadine to add pretty red swirls in drink. Serve chilled or over crushed ice.
Loved the idea from an earlier response about jello shots in Christmas shapes. Greatness!
Our family drink is some GOOD hot chocolate (I like Ghiradelli) with a shot of peppermint schnapps and a shot of Godiva liqueur.
can't go wrong with cowboy caviar & cosmos!
cowboy caviar:
("spicy bean salsa" on allrecipes.com)
1 (15 ounce) can black-eyed peas
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 (4 ounce) can diced jalapeno peppers
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
1 cup Italian-style salad dressing
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
In a medium bowl, combine black-eyed peas, black beans, corn, onion, green bell pepper, jalapeno peppers and tomatoes. Season with Italian-style salad dressing and garlic salt; mix well. Cover, and refrigerate overnight to blend flavors.
[serve with your favorite tortilla chips; my family likes it with fritos too]
cosmoplitan with grand marnier:
this one from allrecipes.com looks yummy & the grand marnier makes it extra special for this festive season:
1 fluid ounce Grand Marnier® or other orange-flavored brandy liqueur
1 fluid ounce triple sec
1 fluid ounce citron vodka
1 fluid ounce cranberry juice
1 lime twist
DIRECTIONS
Pour the Grand Marnier®, triple sec, vodka, and cranberry juice into a cocktail shaker over ice. Cover, and shake until the outside of the shaker has frosted. Strain into a chilled martini glass, and garnish with a lime twist to serve.
HTH!
My dad used to make a drink using hot cocoa and peppermint schnapps. he would then stick a candy cane or one of the peppermint sugar sticks in the drink kind of like a stirrer. It is YUMMY! Also good is hot cocoa with Baileys. Too bad I am 23 weeks pregnant, or I'd be enjoying those myself this year.
You could serve chocolate martinis rimmed w/ crushed peppermint. I've also seen recipes for Poinsettas. It's like a Mimosa only w/ pomegranite juice instead of orange juice. I 2nd the cowboy cavier too. Everytime I've served that it's always a hit. You could also serve little cheese or turkey sandwiches and use cookie cutters to cut them into holiday shapes. I did that at halloween and they came out really cool.
Provide some eggnog for those bringing alcohol.
We also use Eggnog to make an icecream type punch. Just blend Eggnog and Peppermint Icecream (softened of course). It's yummy!
