Dramamine for Rides?

We are heading to Disney World in 3 days. I used to love all the scary roller coaster rides when I was younger. Now I can't even handle the cute little kid rides. I want to enjoy rides with my kids but don't want the side effects of feeling sick afterwards. Can I take dramamine or is there something else that will work?

What can I do next?

I would just stay off the big rides like Space Mountain and a few others that go really fast. Most of Disney's rides are OK for parents to carry a baby on. They made the parks to be family friendly for all ages.

I think taking medication in the heat and sun here may make you feel worse it would be better to avoid the rides you don’t like.

What about ginger candy? I never tried it for rides, but I don't see why not.

You will be so unhappy if you take dramamine at Disney. It will wreck your whole day. And I doubt that it is SAFE for you to be drugged up like that and get on those rides. It would be a bit like drinking and riding. Dramamine will make you groggy and sleepy.

Just do rides that don't make you feel ill - like It's A Small World, Buzz Lightyear, the big ball at Epcot, the easy car rides, stuff like that. You can even do the low-G space ride. If I can do it, anyone can! There are plenty of rides that are easy on you. I don't ride the roller coaster type rides anymore either. But I found plenty of other easy ones to ride.

Just don't do the dramamine - bad idea!

Bonine, not Dramamine.
Done both, hate Dramamine cuz it makes you tired, Bonine doesnt.
Take it about an hour before hitting the rides.

i've used dramamine - but make sure you get the non-drowsy kind!!

*eta - i have taken the "regular" type of dramamine and was miserable, but the "non drowsy" kind, i thought was wonderful. if you're worried about it, take it some time before you go and judge how you feel.

Last summer when my husband and I took our girls to a local amusement park we picked up some Bonine. It's similar to Dramamine, but non-drowsy. I used it when we went on a cruise 15 and 10 years ago and it worked great then, too. As long as you get the non-drowsy kind it's totally worth it! Better than being sick all day!

I have used the sea bands. they are next to the dramamine. they are like sweat bands you wear on your wrist that you use on a pressure point. They work for all kind of nausea and motion sickness.

Dramamine makes me so sleepy that I wouldn't dare take it while out at an amusement park. Take a bottle of ginger root and swallow a couple of capsules every 2 hours or so (so some stays in your tummy) Non-harmful, and effective at quelling the queasies.

My hubby used to ride rides w/me when we were younger but he can't handle anything except the water rides now. He takes Bonine or the generic form, he says it works pretty good but refuses to ride anything but water rides w/me now even though he takes it. One trick I learned a long time ago when riding rides, just look at the 'car' in front of you or the track in front of you (if riding a coaster)...I know that if you're riding & suddenly move your head around, you get dizzy & generally throw up b/c your brain is still going "straight" when you turn your head so it disorients it but try that trick & see if it will help, that is, if you hadn't tried it before. Good luck.
