Dr. Sears' Delayed Vaccine Schedule- Did You Use It?

Does anyone know the schedule that Dr. Sears recommends for delaying vaccines? I am considering this (I have not made a decision yet and am fully capable of doing my own research and disucssing with my caregivers). Have you done this and do you still feel positive about your decision? How did your doctor respond when you approached them with this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did try his website- but it just referred to his vaccine book, and I didn't really want to shell out the dough if I don't have too.

I would not use a schdule. Vaccines are needed but there are numerous new vaccines since my children were growing up, I would avoid those at any cost, my kids got the MMR, DPT, and the TB done and the one they do in 3 parts, thats it, all grew up healthy with no problems, now day they are giveing kids shots for everything and I know for a fact it's not healthy, to pump so much stuff into a child system. Hi A.,
I love Dr. Sears books. However, one piece of advice I did not follow was the vaccine stuff. In this regard, I did everything our dr recommended. I like attachment parenting in general .... baby wearing, attentive to child's needs, sleep sharing, breastfeeding until my toddler decided he did not want (at 2 years 2 months...)... but I did not want to take chances with health stuff. while I am not an expert, from the research I did, i decided to stick to the recommended schedule of our dr..

Good luck with your decision. jilly

he used to be my kids dr. when we lived in California. We just moved to VA about 4 months ago. He is AWESOME!! So friendly and remembers every kid that goes to see him, even if you bump into him at the store, he remembers you! For our kids, he only did 2 shots at a time, sometimes only 1 at a time. It's just so much easier on their system, and there is less side effects. My daughter is 6 now and is all up to date on her shots, all with using the delayed schedule.

I just selectively chose which vaccines to delay...some indefinitely. I researched the big ones (like MMR - read some of the unbiased press about that - not good) and took a rain check on the unnecessary ones (roto virus, hep B). If the vaccine was new (like Gardisil - which is connected with some seriously dangerous side-effects) or preventing something that is not life-threatening (like the roto virus), I said no thank you. My doctors' office - which employs a gazillion pediatricians - said I was the first women to question and refuse the Hep B vaccine for my newborn. This is an STD vaccine that they give to brand new babies. I question every test and every shot they want to give me or my child. Check out these links:

I have heard of the delated schedule but not really sure how it works out exactly. You might be able to get the book at the library. I talked to my doctor about the vaccines for my daughter. I do believe she should have them, though I really do not think it is fair to her to bombard her with 4 shots at one time. He agreed with me that 2 is fine and then I made nurse visits to get the others spaced out about 6 months.
The only time I was pushed, if you can call it that ,is for the HPV vaccine (Gardisil?). The doc my kids saw last year really tried pushing it on me but I am leaving it to my children to decide if they want to get it when they are older. The range is 11 to 24 yrs old so they have plenty of time---and since it sexual related, i really hope they would be able to wait a LOOOOOOONG time. Not ready to face that yet.

You can find the book pretty cheap online, thats where we got it. If you don't have any luck PM me and i will email it to you.
We are using his schedule, and I like it alot better. My ped. gave me no problem. A few recommendations, but otherwise she was fine. It's YOUR child, so it's YOUR choice!

I did not delay with my daughter... tho I had read the arguments behind it. With my son tho (which seem to be more predisposed to autism after certain triggers), I will be.

Also - I"m sure his book is in the library and you won't have to buy, just borrow

Yes, I delayed and avoided some all together. My Ped. was cool (it was Dr. Jim Sears - lol - so got lucky there). However, since we've moved and the kids are older, 6 and 8 I found a vaccine friendly/open minded ped and she's been good so far too. I found if you know what you are talking about and are confident in your decision then your appt will go smoother. I'm very happy with my decision. Just wish I would have met Dr. Sears sooner with my first child. She got more shots than I would have liked and I regret that.
