Recently saw a segment with Dr. Oz on The View where he recommends konjac fiber to help with the full feeling for weight loss... has anyone tried this, what were your results and where did you get it? Thanks.

What can I do next?

You can eat pretty much any type of fiber to get the full feeling. You don't need any 'special fiber'. He's probably getting paid to promote this product.

I saw that segment too, and I did try this just this morning! I have to say I didn't feel any fuller, I didn't notice any difference at all. Dr. Oz did say that he isn't being paid for any of the products he suggests, which is the reason I wanted to give it a try. I will try it again this evening before dinner and If I notice any difference I'll let you know.

I've tried it, however, it was a couple of years ago. I bought it at GNC or Vitamin World. Konjac is the actual name of the fiber (also known as glucomannan) and not an actual brand. The brand I bought was Wellbetx. At the time, I read an article about the benefits of it which claimed that it could help promote lower blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, and perhaps aid in weight loss. I never had any problems with it. I did read later that it has been banned in other countries including Australia although I'm not sure why. Dr. Oz is usually pretty cautious about what he promotes and he doesn't get paid to do so and I cannot imagine that he would promote something that was not safe.

The way the konjac root works is that it swells up once you take it w/water & yes you need to drink all the water w/it that it states you need b/c it will start to swell up & can choke you if you don't swallow it all the way due to not drinking enough water w/it. It is the same thing that's in that advertised supplement called Lipozene & while I didn't order Lipozene, I tried a product w/Konjac root in it that was an equivelent to Lipozene & honestly, it didn't seem to make any difference. It swells up in your stomach & when I did #2, I saw this weird squareish fiber looking thing in the toilet & figured it was the pills I took but it wasn't very big & didn't know how that little thing would keep me from feeling hungry. I didn't have any luck w/it for me. If someone else has & can let you know, great but I'd try something else, like the LA Weightloss program, THAT worked for me really well. It teaches you what foods to eat together & portions, etc. Similar to weight watchers but a bit different. I'd also consider your age, depending on how old you are, your diet needs will change as we grow older so what you're eating now, may be keeping you from losing weight for the simple fact that you may just need to change up what you're eating. But no matter what the ads tell you, you really cannot lose weight w/o exercise & monitoring what you eat & how much you eat. I think I have better luck eating seveal times a day, throughout the day rather than one or two or even three bigger meals. I've started snacking on good stuff like raisins or nuts or yogurt or even eating cereal (usually bran flakes, Cheerios, etc...something 'good' for me) and that fills me up til I need to eat my next regular meal. The new Yoplait Light pie flavors is SOOO good! And I'm not a 'yogurt person', I never liked yogurt at all till I tried the Yoplait. Hope this helps, good luck!
