Doula Recommendations - Island Lake,IL

I am newly pregnant with my third child. My first two were born via c-sections (my 1st was breech and my 2nd a repeat because my doctor got nervous with my being 10 days post due date), and I really want to avoid it if possible this time. I feel that having an experienced doula to support me will give me a better chance of having a vbac. Have any of you used a doula? Do you have any suggestions in what to look for in or to ask a potential doula? Do you know of any doulas who practice in the northwest suburbs of Chicago? I will be delivering at Advocate Good Shepherd in Barrington. Thank you!

ETA: My OB has no problem with it as long as the baby is in a good position. The hospital allows it if the doctor okays it.

What can I do next?

As a doula myself, I can tell you to try the DONA website -- dona.org. They have a listing of DONA certified doulas near you. You should also check out the International Cesarean Awareness Network's website -- ican-online.org -- I'm sure that there is someone in your local chapter who will be able to give you recommendations, possibly even for a doula who specializes in VBACs.

Thank God I had a doula with my son. I PLANNED an all natural "don't even touch me!" birth and GOT a C-section under general anastheticand I am CONVINCED that the reason I'm at peace and even happy with that is because with the Doula's help I was in control of the DECISION making even though I wasn't in control of the situation!

It can be hard to find a doc/hospital that is willing to do a VBAC, it is even harder to find one that will do a VBA2C (vag birth after 2 c-sections). I would make sure your doc and hospital are willing to do it. If they are not, and you are determined, I know UIC (Univ of Illinois at Chicago, NOT U of C) will give you a consult to see if you are a good candidate, but no guarantees. Sorry, I don't have any doula recs, but think they are wonderful supports/advocates for women. I wish you the best of luck.

Try DONA.org, they will help find doula's in your area, they're very reputable, and they'll let you know who is local to you and your birth center.

I had a doula w/ my 2nd-in fact, I met her right here on Mamapedia.
What to look for-compatibility. I think that is most important.
You need to feel super comfortable w/ her. :)

Best wishes for a great healthy pregnancy and smooth L&D! :)

Tricia Fitzgerald, she's amazing but she's on the south side so I don't know if she works up here. Malik Turley is in Evanston. Good luck!!!
