Check out the Best Start Birth Center in San Diego. You'll have an awesome experience. You'll be in control of your own birth. you can have as many people as you want with you, including your step sons.

Yes - we used a Doula for our second baby and I would highly recommend it! My first labor was induced and I had an epidural late in my labor. I really wanted to try and have my second baby naturally and some of my friends recommended using a Doula. I did end up having a natural childbirth and can honestly say that had my Doula not been there, I would have absolutely without a doubt taken the epidural. It was an easier, quicker labor, wonderful birth experience, and a much, much quicker recovery than the first one. Check out the following websites to get more information: www.dona.org and http://www.beautifulbeginnings.org/ourdoulas.php
If you need any other information, please feel free to contact me!
Good luck!
Hi T.,
I am a doula, and I do highly reccomend you using one. A great book to read is The Doula Book, also formerly known as Mothering the Mother. YOu can find one in your area by going to www.dona.org.
I read some of the others, and I know Robin Kay, and she is great. I am not sure how far she will travel since she lives here in Lake Elsinore. There are many doulas down in San Diego, and I am willing to travel if you can't find one you like there.
Good luck, and I hope you will find yourself expecting soon! :-)

My second child was born at Best Start Birth Center in San Diego near Balboa Park http://www.beststartbirthcenter.com/
I can't praise them enough!! I also went there with my miscarriage last year. The insurance lady, Bonnie, is a wiz at finding a way to get your insurance to cover them.
I don't have any recommendations if you're thinking of a home birth though. They might know someone to recommend if you call Best Start maybe.
Good luck!
I am a mom of six children! All but the oldest was delivered at home with a midwife. What a great experience for the whole family.
try dona.com to search for a doula.
Hi T.!
I birthed my daughter at Best Start Birth Center in Hillcrest...they offer empowered birth choices...we had a wonderful experience and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a natural birth experience. You can also do underwater birth there. You can bring in a doula and they may even refer you to one as well. (I didn't have a doula but we had our friend with us to drive us home after the birth and video tape it. One cannot go wrong with a doula. Even if it's just someone to be with you in case your husband or partner needs to go to the bathroom!)
There are a few catches, however. They only accept low-risk pregnancies. They are very strict about that and if you suddenly become high risk in the end, you may have to be transferred...that can be very disconcerting. If this could be your case I would recommend UCSD birthing center. They have nurse midwives taking care of you and volunteer doulas as well. If you need to, they can simply transfer you to the hospital floor. If we were to have another baby, I would still do Best Start, though.
Both of these places offer tours and information...who knows maybe Best Start is more lenient now...I would give them both a call. I also know an independent lay midwife in San Diego who is excellent.
Sincerely,
M. Katchur
I had my first child at 35 years of age. Labor was induced and I could not cope with the pain. I ended up having an epidural.
With my 2nd and 3rd child I decided to get a Doula. Both times I had a wonderful experience. I did not have to be induced and I had natural births. I recovered much much faster. With the epidural i remember feeling groggy and tired for a while.
My doulas name is: Robin Kay, email: ____@____.com
Now that I'm pregnant again I decided to get a mid-wife and have a home birth. I found a wonderful mid-wife.
Her name is: Karen Pecora, email: ____@____.com
Having a doula and/or mid-wife gave and still gives me a great pool of information. Conversations are always open and I can ask questions without having to wait for my next doctors appointment.
I hope I could help you with this information.
Hi,
We hired a doula in 2005 for the birth of our first daughter, it was a great experience. We used Donna Hayes, I don't have her contact information anymore but if you google her name I'm sure you will find her.
