Ok moms...Is douching safe? Is it recommended, and if so, how often. Is it safer or better to just use water rather than the solution?

What can I do next?

Every OB/GYN I have ever talked to says it is not safe. It destroys the natural balance and leaves us open to infections. They just say to clean the area often and not to put anything inside. Hope this helps.

Don't do it. It disrupts the vaginal PH levels and will cause more harm than good. The vagina has its own natural cleaning system,I wouldn't mess with the process. You are at a higher risk for yeast infections, irritation and vaginal dryness if you douche.Gentle soap and water is the best for cleansing--

Take care,

Molly

Only do douching if your dr. recommends that you do so.
I gave myself a major yeast infection once because I tried doing this. She said it messed up the balance that I had already, and not to do it anymore.

Yes, it's safe. Use the vinegar and water kind.

However, vaginas are basically self-cleaning, so with good hygiene (regular showers and soap), you should rarely need it.

If you feel like you frequently need it, there is probably some infection issue.

Having said this, I agree with all the other moms also, but I've douched on rare occasion and it has not resulted in a yeast infection.
