Double/twin Strollers Vs. Sit-n-stand Strollers...

My son is 3 years 2 months old, 39 inches tall, and 39 pounds. His cousin is 16 months, and 21 pounds. My son and I often go on outings with the boys' grandmother, and his 16 month old cousin, and she wants to purchase a single stroller to use when we go out together (which is pretty frequently), rather than transporting and trying to keep track of 2 strollers and 2 kids, etc... She has left it up to me to find one that will meet our needs, as I am a compulsive researcher when it comes to buying baby gear!
I have narrowed it down to 2 that I think I like best...
1) Peg Perego's Aria Twin 60/40... this side-by-side twin stroller brags a larger seat on one side to accommodate a car seat, with a smaller seat for the older child... well, we would not need the car seat, so for our purposes, I imagine that the larger seat would be good for my son, and the smaller seat, for his younger cousin... I like that my son can still sit and ride, or recline and sleep, as he still does on occasion, when its been a long day out... additionally, I think the boys would enjoy being side by side, as they really enjoy one another. I have found this one for about $250...
2) Baby Trend's Sit-n-Stand is another good option, obviously allowing the younger child to sit in front, and my son to sit or stand in the back. I think this would be nice for my son, because although I take our stroller everywhere we go, he often chooses to walk instead of ride, and this stroller would allow him the freedom to sit or ride along, and get out as he pleases (which might drive me nuts!) My main concern is that my son can't really sit and relax or nap in this stroller, which at 3+, I guess maybe I just need to get over that! This stroller is about $130.
Bear in mind that these kids are not brothers, and although we do go out together rather frequently, this is a stroller that is only going to be used when the boys are together, and I'm not sure for how long, with my son already 3+. We don't want to spend a fortune, but I think that if we have a reason to strongly prefer the Aria 60/40, then we would spend the extra money.
I am just wondering if anyone has experience with these strollers, or a situation with kids similar to ours and can offer any advice on which may be the better choice. Or some ideas of what you like or dislike about either of these strollers. I think our main desire is functinoality that meets our needs, with price being a definite consideration, but not the determining factor, at least with a difference of only about $100. I am just having a hard time deciding which I think would best suit us!! I am as indecisive as they come... lol Thanks for any help!! :)
Thank you all for your responses. We decided on the BabyTrend Sit-N-Stand with the second seat option. I had a lightweight BabyTrend stroller that I actually liked quite a bit, so I was comfortable with the BabyTrend brand. And with the option for the second full seat (although I am sure we will rarely use it), I feel comfortable that this will meet our needs for at least a couple years to come. I just got it this morning, and haven't had a chance to assemble it yet, but can't wait to get home so we can play with it! Thanks again for all the good advice.

I think it totally depends on your son. My first two are 18 momths apart. My daughter, at 3, was a handful in the stores and has to be cooped up in the stroller for my sanity. My son is now 3 and I have an 11 month old. My son is a much better walker in the stores then my oldest was at this age and he rarely sits in my double. I usually have it with me incase he gets tired, but most of the time he does not sit in it. If your son walks quite frequently I would go with the sit and stand, you'll be able to get more time out of it. At 3 there is not a whole lot of time you will be needing to put him in a stroller, the sit n stand will go a longer way.

I have the Baby Trend sit & stand and really enjoy it. My son is 2 and no longer sleeps in the stroller so the issue of not being able to sleep wasn't a factor for us. My 3 1/2 month old is able to be in the front in her car seat & he can still sit in the back without the car seat in his way. It's lightweight (my 4 yr old niece test rode it for me and I could easily push her with her in it). It's also proportioned correctly so it's not top heavy - when I'm latching my daughter in the front with the heavy carseat (or taking my son out) and don't feel like it's going to tip on me at all.

100% go with the Sit and Stand! Your son is at the age where they do not want to sit in the stroller anymore. Soon he will probably refuse as mine did. However the Sit and Stand is fun for them so they don't mind it. He would probably go until at least 5 1/2-6 y.o. and still be OK with it. I would also take naps totally out of the equation in determining what to buy because he will probably not be doing that in a stroller for anymore than 6 more months if that.

L., I have the sit n stand stroller for my 2 boys. I like it because it is front and back not side to side. Very difficult to get around in stores with a side by side. the only negative about the stroller is the basket underneath. I have to put things in from the front. I got use to putting things under from the back with the single stroller. Other than that I like it alot. Its been a life saver!

I'd go with the Sit N Stand. We got it when my third was born. At that time her sisters were almost 3 and 5 and it worked great for us - could even accommodate all 3 if needed. Since you will not be using the stroller every day I would suggest that you shop for a used one. I bought a double stroller for my grandson and nephew to use for on 50.00 on Craigs List. I would recommend that you buy one that is one behind the other as the double wide are hard to move between racks when you are shopping.

I have had all styles of double strollers, and the sit-n-stand is the only one I still use. I bought it at target for $120! Love that thing... still use it (mostly to carry all the stuff I bring along! hahaha! I'm a bit of an overpacker)
We had a Graco twin front/back style, and that worked fine when my daughters were younger, but I wouldn't use it now (one just turned 4 and the other is 2.5)
I also had a side by side twin umbrella stroller and that thing was awful! it didn't fit through doorways at the worst time (daughter was FINALLY sleeping and we had to take everything out to fold it up to get through the doorway).
