Double/Triple Coupons

I go to Walmart because they match any coupons from any store. I almost always buy the generic brand and most of the time you can't even tell! The best things to buy generic are cereals and snack foods.

Good for you for wanting to get your family healthy physically as well as financially.
I can't say that I have any good advice since I routinely only shop at Hen House and Whole Foods. I will tell you that Hen House doubles coupons all the time, I'm not sure about the triple coupons.
I will follow this thread though to see what others spend. When I saw you have 3 growing boys my thought was "it's going to just get more expensive as they get older!" I know that I spent probably too much on food when my son was home. He's a freshman at college now. BUT, my rational was that he and his friends always knew they were welcome here at the house. That way I knew where they were and what they were doing! So I always had extra stuff on hand.
Again good for you and I will follow this discussion because in these times everyone could learn to save more $.

shop at Aldi for your canned goods, cereal, bread, and some other stuff. We buy a lot there. About the only think I don't care for is the lunch meats and some of the processed frozen foods but for the most part we prefer their cereals over name brands and most of them cost 1.69 a box, and a lot of their other foods taste good. We have kids ages 16, 14, and 9. We spend about 400.00 a month on groceries. As for coupons, you just have to price compare, sometimes its cheaper to buy the store brand than the name brand with a coupon. Watch the ads for meat prices, there is usually a meat special every few weeks and buy enough during those special weeks for a month. I just use the coupons on items I normally buy but don't look for foods just because I have a coupon for it.

Price Chopper usually has great deals. We used to go to Hy-Vee a lot but they're a bit expensive on some stuff. PC also has a card called a Chopper Shopper card. It helps with discounts on some things. It can be a life saver! Hope this helps!

I watch the sale ads in the Star on wed and sun and stock up accordingly at the stores that are local, Hyvee and Price Chopper,(no Hen House in Raymore) on anything that will keep awhile. I also cut coupons for anything I use regularly and try to use them when things are on sale. I've found our Aldi to be good on some things, particulary fruits, but not much difference overall from Walmart prices. I do the bulk of my shopping there, but by watching the sales I've cut my grocery bill by a 1/3 at least. I don't mess much anymore with CVS and Walgreens. CVS esp. is too expensive, even when stuff's on sale and the extra bucks rewards they give to use at your next visit often expire before I use them. You know our main store that we shop at is Aldi. It will save you more! If I were to walk in HyVee, Price Chopper or Hen House I would spend easily $250-$300. But you go to Aldi and it's cut in half! Go there the next time it's time to grocery shop...you will be impressed!!

When I really need to eat very cheaply I go to Aldi's. But, for the most part, I'm not impressed with the quality of the items I've purchased there. I try to cook cheaply and healthily for my family, which can be tough!

I find Price Chopper to be MORE expensive than Hy-Vee, but I buy off-brands of almost everything, and Hy-Vee brand and Country Market (a separate Hy-Vee brand) can't be beat for price and quality. Best Choice might be a tad bit cheaper, but I don't like the flavor (referring to canned veggies and fruits specifically).

Hy-Vee also gives you great coupons at the check-out, just make sure you ask for them, sometimes they don't hand them over just because some people don't like all the paper.

Aldi has good deals. Theres one at 135th between blackbob and murlin across from kohls, and another off 135th and antioch.

My husband and I just finished Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace university and that was a real eye opener, let me tell you. I am not sure about the double or triple coupons but I do like to go to coupons.com and you can find ANYTHING there. I have 2 boys 9 and 5 with one on the way, also a husband that likes his bbq meat on Sunday. and we have a strict budget. of no more than 250 for 2 weeks. once a month I do go to sams for Meat and other stock up items. but as long as you use cash money (envelope system) you will know this is all I can get. That helps me. I even get the kids involved with the calculator at the store so they understand why impulse buying is not ok when you don't have the money for it. Hope this helps you.

I haven't seen double or triple coupon days at the store I shop at in this century. I do use the store discount cards. Also explore the off price stores like Aldi's. They have a much more limited selection, but better prices on staples. Also learn your store by going at different times of the day. One store has special prices early on Saturday morning. Also some stores will reduce the prices on prepackaged meat when it is near expiration. The neon lights in stores will cause the meat to darken quickly. A friend, and asst. store manager told me that at the end of the day the meat department would mark down the darkened steaks. Then at closing he would buy them.
