Double Stroller for the Zoo

Hey Mamas,
I am taking my kiddos 3yrs, 8months, to the zoo this Friday. I have a single stroller which I use all the time and a double that I use occasionally. I am wondering if I should take my double with me. I hate too as it is sooooooooooo big!! I joke about it being my Smart Car. But I am thinking if my three year old gets super tired, he may want to ride. But I am meeting a friend and her three year old will be there so I am thinking that he won't want to stop playing for anything. Also, I know my baby will be able to see so much better if he is in the single. But I just have this nagging feeling that my three year old may start whining as the zoo is soooooooo large. Which would you take??

What can I do next?

I went to the Zoo recently with a friend. We both have almost 4 yrs old boys and a baby. She took her double stroller and her son was in and out of it the whole time and she wanted to pull her hair out. He wanted to walk and be able to walk up to see the animals. Go with the single stroller.

I'm going on Friday also with my two kiddos and I am taking the double. My oldest is almost 5 and my son is 2 1/2. My daughter may end up walking the whole time, but I want to keep my options open and if she does end up walking, then I'll have more room for all of the "stuff" (we're bringing lunch) and won't have to shove it all down into the basket underneath.

I'll do just about anything to head whining off at the pass, so I would play it safe and bring the double. Hope you have fun! We're looking forward to it. I noticed you're in Houston...are you going for the Zoo Boo? My daughter loved it when we went a couple of years ago. Hope you enjoy your day!

I should mention that mine is a sit n stand, so my daughter hops on and off as she wants to. I fear now, though, that they will fight over who gets to stand in the back. Guess we'll see how it goes!

I live in Houston and just took my almost 3 year old twins and my 12 month old to the zoo using a single stroller. I had my hubby with me and we only stay for a couple hours, so when they were tired, we left. We went really early so it wouldn't be crowded and the whole time I was looking around thinking that my triple stroller would work here b/c the walk ways are so wide, so you'd be fine with the double. I guess the answer is, it depends on how early to plan on getting there and how long you plan on stay. BTW, the elephant bath time is a must with the new baby elephant. =)

Your eldest is 3.... just bring a single stroller for the baby.
That is fine.
AND you are with a friend at the zoo and you BOTH can help each other with the kids.

I would take the double. You'll probably need it. 3 year olds can't walk too long without whining

From past experience I'd recommend taking the double. What I've learned is it's nice to have a place to strap them in once it's too crowded. After a while of trying to keep track of your 3 yr old you might want a break. Plus those little legs get tired easily.

Have fun!

I just went to the zoo last weekend with my 1 and 3 year old and took the double stroller and she rode in it for like 1 minute!! But I also met a friend with 2 nine year olds and my daughter wanted to walk with her. My mom had told me that when she and my dad took my daughter to the zoo that she didn't sit in the stroller, but I wanted to be on the safe side. I would find out if your friend is taking a stroller for her child. If so, I would consider taking the double so that both kids will be in the stroller together. Also - I took my kids for four hours and my 3 year old walked the ENTIRE TIME!

Here is an idea. Take both and see if your friend wants to push one. That way the double could fit both three year olds and your 1 year old could go in the single.

I personally would take the double stroller with you. You wont have to wrangle your 3 year old when you are getting tickets and trying to get into the zoo since he will be in the stroller. Also if you are worried about your 8 month old seeing everything can you not put him/her up front while your son is walking? Sorry just a thought, I always like to be prepared for anything and everything, it might be heavy but it might cause you less stress in the long run.

Take the double. We have a relatively small zoo that we go to and my almost 4 year old always wants to ride in the stroller. I can put the baby in the Moby Wrap (she's 14 months) and push my big kid in the stroller. We made the mistake of not taking a stroller the first time we went. Our zoo experience was less than desirable for everyone involved.
I know double strollers are HUGE, but it's way easier than trying to carry one child and push the other.
