Try mixing a little formula in with mostly breast milk to help her get used to the taste, and slowly bring up the level. Even if it is half and half, it will really stretch out how far what breast milk you have will go .
I live in Maryland and have to go to NY in two weeks-- just for a full day (6:30am - 11pm) for my job. I breastfeed my 6 month old, and while she's eating some solids now, I don't have enough milk stored up to last the 16-17 hours I'll be away from her!! I pump when I can at work, and even at home when I'm with her. My problem is that on my day's off with her, I try not to pump too much in between her feedings so there will be milk for her when she's hungry to breastfeed (and my milk supply is less after around 3pm anyway). She won't take formula or goats milk-- any suggestions other than pumping like crazy????

pump right after she nurses... even if you don't get much. this will tell your body that your baby is absolutely ravenous and you should produce more. I do this every time I feel like my supply is getting low (I nurse and pump... so I like to over-produce. lol) I will go from pumping a 5 oz bottle to being able to get 8 oz or so. (my daughter is only 3 months, so I don't try for any more than that.) every 3 hours. :) Also, eat oatmeal for breakfast and look into the mother's milk tea... it has fenugreek(?) in it which stimulates milk production. good luck!
Pump like crazy. Don't intro formula or goat's milk. If you have been exclusively nursing, I certainly wouldn't intro that now.
I hate to say it, but just pump an extra time or two a day. It's worth it to have the milk for your daughter. You will be able to do it, I would imagine. Get some Mother's Milk Tea and drink a few cups a day to help out your supply.
If you were talking being away from her for days, maybe you might have to rethink it. However, one day? Just pump extra. I hate to sound so blunt, but it seems pretty straightforward. Set your alarm for an hour before she gets up from now until then and pump before she usually gets up.
I pump every morning because I donate my milk. I get the most in the morning and it slowly decreases throughout the day. I don't love it, but I do it.
Good luck. She won't starve if you up your pumping and she's ready to eat...the body is amazing. I nurse two babies and donate 12-15 ounces a day.
2 weeks should be enough to build up a supply.. everyone is different, but here is what i would (and did) do:
i would pump first thing in the morning when you have the most milk. if you think that your daughter wont get enough, then dont pump till you are empty and she will still get the hindmilk which will keep her full and at the same time stimulate your breasts to make more at this time each day. or, first thing in the morning, pump one side till empty, nurse her on the other side, then nurse her again on the first side. maybe go back for a second round on side 2 if she wants it. switch sides that you start with each day. the first couple of days she will probably be a little frustrated, just nurse her more often. it should only take a few days of doing this to build your supply and you should be able to store a lot more. meanwhile, drink more water, no caffiene, and eat oatmeal every day with maple syrup (the whole regular oats and the cheap fake syrup like log cabin or whatever, it has fenugreek in it).
I'd have to agree the most with Cristina. I would pump every time after she nurses.
You said she's eating SOME solids? What if, for breakfast, you give her banana and rice cereal or fruit, then nurse her (she'll be pretty full after the solids). THEN pump- you should get a lot pumped. Can you take off of work a morning or two before your trip to get a lot more stored?
You're currently working and pumping while at work? Does ALL of that milk get drunk? Perhaps you're making 10 oz bottles, but at daycare, she's only drinkin 7 oz of it. Maybe if you store it differently right now (in 8oz bags), less will be going to waste (like the 3 oz that she doesn't drink).
Don't forget to pack your pump when you are in NY! It will take up a large part of you carry-on luggage. Pack an extra shirt and breast pads in case you leak. How embarassing would that be? Especially when on business.
Your body works on demand. The more you demand, the more you will make. even if you just pumped and then she nursed, she should still get enough out and it will tell your body to make more. Pump in the morning, and then agian right before bed, you can even pump in the middle of the night for extra milk.
Pump like crazy and check out this site www.llli.org
good luck!
I would pump each night after she goes to bed, before you do. I have a 7 month old, and I also do not like pumping in the morning when I'm home with him even though I have more milk then. I always feel like he won't get enough milk on the next feeding, or the let down takes longer. I go through phases of pumping after he goes to bed at night, and at first I can barely get an ounce, but by the third night I get about 2-4. If you do this every night between now and when you leave, I bet you'd have more than enough bottles in the freezer for your babe. PLUS, since she eats solids and you are only going for a day, she could eat extra solids that day and survive! Your baby probably goes to bed at a decent hour, and doesn't need to eat again until many hours later... so I say at night is the best time to squeeze some milk out! Good luck!
Take some Fenugreek - available at Whole Foods stores, drink a beer (the yeast helps stimulate production) and pump for a few minutes after she's done nursing (the extra suction, even if no milk is coming, stimulates your body to produce more milk). All three things should get your supply up FAST. And two weeks should be plenty of time to get plenty of milk stored.
Do yourself a favor, don't just pump for this trip. Keep it up! Even if while you're on your trip, either pump and dump or freeze it while you're there and try to keep it frozen for the trip home. (You should be able to store it at a hotel and on the airplane IF you ask for help in advance.)
And remember, although she won't take formula now, if she's hungry enough, she may be willing to take some. You can try to introduce it a bit now so it's not a shocker if she gets some while you're gone. Add a bit into rice cereal or oatmeal so she gets the taste of it. You could also try to mix mostly breastmilk with a bit of formula to see if that helps.
Since I was in a similar boat, in an emergency, someone can give her 1 oz of apple juice + 3 oz of water mixed with the formula. The sweetness of the apple juice makes the formula tastier. Now I am not recommending this for everyday use! But at her age, she can have SOME juice. And since she won't take formula right now, this will help give you a safety net while you're gone. (My pediatrician said the "apple juice bottle" while the baby was with a sitter was fine, even everyday. We ONLY did this in an emergency since my son would NOT take formula otherwise.)
Best wishes.
