Donating Items

Hello All ... Ok, so I'm in the giving mood. We've been blessed this year, and with Christmas coming, I know my son is going to get so much more. Well, as time moves on, I slowly gather items - clothing he can't wear anymore and toys he doesn't really play with anymore, etc. I use to take this all to one of the thrift stores. I want to do this again, but I just don't want anyone to have to pay for these items. I guess what I'm looking to do is find someone(s) that could use these items, at NO cost to them. Not a hand out, but a hand up! I know so many others are struggling right now, even us at times. I see people all the times with little ones, and my heart wants to offer all that I have ... but my mouth stops because I just don't want to offend.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

First Baptist Church of Raytown has Hope Network, a non profit agency that offers free food, clothing, meals and other items for those in need. They would love to take your items and would give them to someone in need. You can call them at ###-###-####. Also, they will give you a tax deduction for it.

Thanks, and God bless what you're doing.

R. House is a pregnancy resource center for crisis pregnancy. They help and minister to moms and babies through the first year. If you have any clothing left (I think they take up to 18 or 24 month clothes) or toys or high chair or anything else a baby or mom could use, they will put it to good use!! (Mamas need help too, so if you run on to maternity clothes while cleaning out your closets, they will take that, too!)

I have heard great things about Hope House also, or search for other crisis centers. Blessings to you! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Hope House would use them - It's a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Many times, these people leave with only the clothes on their back to escape their environment.

M., you are an amazing person to think this through so carefully. You are a true example of what this season is all about. God Bless You!

I donate lots of stuff to Operation Breakthrough. They are in the inner city and have so many kids with nothing. Few clothes, no toys, no christmas gifts. They would be so happy with clothes and toys. Especially this time of year!

I was going to put a couple ideas on here for you, but it looks like you have a bunch of great places to give now. I just wanted to say good for you, for wanting to do good in this way. I also recently heard a way of offering help without risking offending someone, so I thought I'd share it with you-- if you ask "do you know anyone who could use this?" it allows the person to accept your gift without acknowleging a need for help, and it won't offend someone who feels they don't need help. Just thought I'd share that and send my blessings to you and your little one!

Last year for my son's first birthday we collected items for Give What You Got. They provide birthday care packages for children in KC area foster homes. For some, these are the only presents they'll receive on their special day. And, many of them are forced to move from family to family with only what they can carry, having to leave toys and other things behind each time. To help with this, one of the things you can donate is duffle/travel bags so they don't have to haul precious items in a trash bag and risk it ripping.

Give What You Got collects for ages 1-18, both new and gently used items. It's a great way to clear out some things your kids have outgrown or that your house doesn't need (like photo frames, CDs/DVDs, etc. that older ones could enjoy).
