A big NO on the polly pockets. These are designed for older girls. A 3yo does not have the motor skills to change the clothing.
What's wrong with an old fashioned baby doll? Both my girls loved pushing their babies in the stroller.
I was thinking of buying my daughter some Polly pockets for her bday but I am just not sure I like the look of them. Suggestions for dolls for a 3 year old? We don't do princess stuff in this house, and I would like to stay away from really girlie stuff. Anyone know of any good alternative dolls for preschoolers?

I agree that Polly Pockets might be a little too hard for her yet. My daughter has some mini Princess dolls that have similar clothing to the Polly dolls and she has a really hard time with them. She likes playing with the dolls, but changing their clothes is a big challenge. My daughter's favorite doll is a regular baby doll. It is Fisher Price Little Mommy. It doesn't make any noise or do any tricks. It is wearing a little baby onsie and has a little non removable hospital bracelet on it and she lives and dies by this doll. This is the BEST one I've seen. All the girls (and boys) love it and this style seems to be really popular. I have seen them at Target. She also loves the F.P. stroller too. It is a coveted toy in our house!
Our daughter adored Polly pockets... Our also daughter liked the groovy girl dolls.
I always took our daughter to the store to see what grabs her interest..
I always followed her leads.. not my own wishes..
I bought this doll for my daughter for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. She carries it everywhere. The only issue that I have had so far with it is her hair. It kinda gets messy.

Dolls for girls, will always be 'girly.'
It is hard to get away from that.
Little girls, love it.
And some girls are just really girly.
My daughter, loved Polly Pockets too.
Then they go on to other phases and likes/dislikes.
my daughter loves her cabbage patch baby. its one of the preemie babies that just has the little patch of hair. she takes her everywhere. its so cute and it reminds of when me & my sisters were little and had them. :)
My daughter really enjoys the Strawberry Shortcake dolls.
Look on www.etsy.com and search for custom cloth doll, rag doll, etc. There are tons on there that 'm sure you will find one you like. Also look for Waldorf Dolls. THey are spendy but really quality dolls.
I make handmade cloth dolls and Waldorfs for Etsy, and my daughter is 3 and she loves them. They help foster her imagination and she can dress them how she chooses, in a dress, pants, jammies, whatever.
If you are looking for small dolls like the Polly's, I'd recommend the Fisher Price Loving Family dolls & doll house. They are perfect for her age...good pretend play, no clothes to change. For bigger dolls, LaLaLoopsy dolls are really popular and cute.
What do you have against "girlie" stuff? Aren't most dolls "girlie"? Unless you get her GI Joe's...lol!
