The easiest solution might be getting one of those hair bands with fake curls attached. They have them at Walgreens.
My daughter is going to be a ballerina this year for Halloween. Her hair is not very long yet, long enough to put little pony tails in the front. She does have a lot of hair though. I bought a really small curling iron. Any tricks for keep the curls? gel? hairspray? my hair doesn't curl so well, so I am looking for any ideas from other moms! thanks!

I'm trying to get the cowardly lion hair on my 2 year old, so I bought the soft "sleep in" rollers... They make some now that look like little cotton pillows - there is a wire inside that allows you to twist it to hold in place and no hard outer plastic shell. I can't even imagine attempting to take a curling iron to her. I'm sure we'd end up in the ER!
If you decide to use the curling iron, use a comb to shield her scalp from the iron. If she moves the curling iron will hit the comb first. Old fashion pin curls might work, you take the hair and roll it towards the head, use 2 bobbie pins and cross them to secure the hair.
Oh I think Lili is right on the mark - you daughter might think it is totally awesome to have the cute little headband with cascades of curls, while you get to avoid trying to curl her hair with a hot curling iron! (You're way braver than I am for trying to curl a 2 year old's hair!)
