So I have a 2 year old Silky Palm and she is potty trained. She has a doggy dog but this morning i caught her peeing on the floor. This has happened a few other times. What should I do?

What can I do next?

Is it cold/raining outside. I found my dog didn't want to go out in the cold/rain. I would have to literally force him to go out on cold/wet mornings. Dogs are like people, they kind of pee at routine times so if you can figure out her times, just throw her out around then. Also, I learned that a dog will not pee/poop where they live. So, if you find that she has a "favorite" spot she goes in in the house, use a leash and make her stay in that spot after she has peed, before you clean it up. Not long, about 15 - 20 minutes will do it. She will HATE it, but she won't go in that spot again!

If it's cold out, my dogs won't go out to pee right way away (readily) either.
Doggie door or not.
Make sure there's not a predator on the toher side (reason my dogs are smart enough to stay inside. We've had racoons, possums, feral (sp?) cats.
In rain or in the event of a racoon....I take the poochies out to pee in backyard before bed. If they won't go on otheir own (scared), I put them on a leash to pee & take them out back to do their business before bed time, throughout the day and esp when it rains.

Yes, take her to the vet. If she's usually well trained, an infection is the first thing to suspect.

Is this a new dog? or have you had her for some time? We just acquired a supposedly 'housebroken' 6 year old dog from the pound, and we are having similar problems. We installed a doggy door, and we also put a baby gate on the stairs to keep her from going upstairs to pee (her favorite spot is my youngest son's room, and I absolutely LOVE Cheryl B's suggestion - gonna have to try that one).

Similar to what others have mentioned, our dog does NOT like to go outside when it's wet! If it's raining or snowing, she will turn right around and come back in. Even with the dog door, we take her out at night before bedtime, and on occasion during the day if we see her standing by the back door (the dog door actually goes into the garage, then another dog door to the backyard, which she seems to think is too much effort ;).

I don't think it's a UTI based on your comment that 'this has happened a few other times', but I would need more details to know for sure. Thanks for posting this!

Cheryl gave great advice, but if none of it is applying in your situation, you may want to bring her to the vet. A urinary tract infection could be the culprit.

Take her to the vet in case it is a UTI. Also if it is raining outside, maybe you need to walk her.
