Natural Products to Stop Dog from Pooping in Yard

Most of us would agree that we do not want our yards and flower gardens covered with excrement from dogs, cats and a variety of wildlife that may roam the area. What may be a matter of disagreement however, is how to do this. Today, the majority would no doubt go for methods which would not only be safe for pets and people, but which are also eco-friendly. Fortunately, there are a number of products out that will do this to greater and lesser degrees of success.
Bio Defend
BioDefend's natural dog repellent products are effective, eco-friendly, and human safe. This product contains Extendex, which magnifies the repelling process and extends the length of protection in treated areas.

BioDefend repels other dogs and animals with its offensive odor and tastes. Extendex targets an animal's natural defense mechanisms, increasing the fear of predation. This causes the animal to go elsewhere to seek safety. It is environmentally friendly, biodegradable, nontoxic and safe for animals and humans.

Like most such products, it is in liquid form, and applied to the perimeter of the area you wish to protect, leaving the inner portions of the yard comfortable and safe for your own pets.
Liquid Fence
Dogs and cats can be kept away with Liquid Fence Dog & Cat Repellent. This all-natural spray is a great way to deter them from using yard and garden as a toilet area. The Dog & Cat Repellent is sprayed on the areas where your pets, your neighbor's pets and strays don't belong: lawns, flowerbeds, garden beds, trees, shrubs and trash containers. Their favorite spots become areas to avoid, not visit.
The spray is made from all-natural plant oils, so it's biodegradable and earth friendly. It can safely be used around humans, and it won't harm animals or plants. Liquid Fence works by masking the animal odors which usually attract other animals, causing the animal to become uneasy, and they move on.
Shot Gun Dog and Cat Repellant
This product will stop dogs and cats from ruining flower gardens, as well as preventing toileting on the lawns by other pets and stray animals.This repellent discourages them by creating an aromatic barrier around flowerbeds, shrubs and trees. Its odor is pleasant enough to human noses, but offensive to animals, causing them to move on, and refrain from digging or using the area as a toilet. It comes in granular form, and does need to be reapplied weekly.
Conclusion
Most natural animal repellent products for the yard are based on natural oils and repel with odor. While the majority seem to be liquid-based, some are in granular form, which may last longer. Most require frequent reapplication, but those of high quality such as were mentioned here will serve to keep neighborhood pets and other animals off of the owner's property, thus eliminating having to go out and remove excrement, and having urine burns on the lawn.

I have the same problem with the area around my mailbox. I've sprayed vinegar (white) on the area and that seemed to work for me, but you have to spray it often. I've also used the moth-ball crystals. (shake it out on the area) Again, you still have to continuously apply the stuff. There is a pet repellant you can buy at Wal-Mart, but it's about $9 for a small-ish can. The vinegar and/or mothballs are cheaper.

Set up a hidden video camera right around that area and catch the dog and the owner. Then contact them, and let them know that if they don't start picking up their messes you'll contact the police. If they try and lie show them and the police the videotape evidence.

I have seen these bricks in the SkyMall that lure a dog to a certain area to use the bathroom. perhaps putting those in an area you don't mind the mystery dog leaving its business could help contain/control it?
