Does Your Washer Gets Left over Water After Every Wash?

I had the Whirlpool top loader washer, is only 3 months old but some times the clothes comes smelling weird.
I have already "wash" the washer and run Clorox and washed it on the specific cycle to clean the washer, which it helps for a 2 weeks.

I have notice that is ALWAYS water in the bottom on the washer, no that I can see but under, and I can hear is a good amount of water.

I always leave the door open, do not leave my clothes there after I wash them, but no matter what is always water left in the bottom which I think is why the clothes smells.
Also there is ALWAYS water left on the compartments where you put the bleach and softener.

I went to Best Buy and they told me ALL washer get some water left.

Does yours?
I don't remember any of my old ones to have this problem.

Jo, I was thinking to change mine for those ones that have the drain feature.

What can I do next?

I have a top loader. There is no water left over after a wash. Sounds like you have a hook-up problem, or clogged out pipes or something to that effect.

Did Best Buy install them for you? If so, they need to come look at it. If your husband installed them, then HE needs to figure out why it's not draining properly.

Call the manufaturer on this one - there should still be a year or two warranty in effect for them to come look at it for free. In the meantime wash you clothes with vinegar and lemon juice or vinegar and a quarter of the detergent you typically use with baking soda as the "softner" vs downy or snuggle and see if you notice a difference. Sometimes the vinegar can help cut out the softner and detergent build up in the pipes that drain the liquids - kind of like using it to clean your coffee pot!

I'd call Whirlpool.

I would also make sure your washer is level and the hose releasing the used water is positioned correctly as I know from experience those can be two things that cause backed up water.

I have a hard time believing the Best Buy guy because it sounds as though the water staying in your washer is probably making your clothes stink as it gets musty and mixes with the new water. When you clean it with bleach this probably cleans the water for a short period.

it's not draining properly. you need to check the hose connection first, and if it's not that, it may be kaput. it is not true that all washers retain water. mine did, and it was dying. don't wait for it to flood your basement (twice!) like i did!

My top loader does not leave much water inside, not like the front loader we used to have. Try leaving the top open after every wash so that anything left inside will dry up. Try running it with some vinegar to clean out any mildew and be sure to leave the top open after.

I had an LG all in one front loader, meaning the same machine would wash and then dry clothes. Brand new, came with the condo. Same issue. Considering the 32 other tenants in the building had the same issue with a smelly machine and smelly clothes, I doubt it was a defective unit because then they would all be defective!

I tried putting bleach and nothing, it had a mildewy smell. As I would turn the washing barrel, I could hear water in there. Like i said, this was a brand new machine, only used about 3 times so again, I doubt something was broken. That plus the fact the dryer would take 3.5 hours to complete yet still leaving me with damp clothes and a huge electric bill, convinced me to get rid of it. I got a washer dryer stackable combo like the ones you'd see 5 years ago in homes and I couldn't be happier. The clothes don't smell nor does the machine and my electric bill is much lower than it ever was with that supposedly "energy efficient" front loader.

We used to have a front loader when we lived in Europe over 10 years ago and I don't remember these issues with smell. It seems that as time has passed, instead of getting better, these machines have gotten worse, judging by the online reviews as well. I will hold off on purchasing one in the future until I find someone who recommends a specific model and lets me see it in action or there are tons of positive feedback online to prove it's a worthwhile purchase.

Another thing you may want to look at is the online reviews on your machine and model. You might find other people who had the same issue
and see what they did to resolve it. This can either offer solutions or help you determine what the problem may be. They might even have a troubleshooting guide. I wish you the best of luck with this issue.

When I had a top loader it did. Not sure how much because it was always below the tub but it was there.

I think it is just the mechanics of washers, even my front loader has the same issue though it has a drain if I am inclined to use it.
