Im curious.
My dad never did my hair when I was young
And my FiL has never combed his 6 yr olds hair.

My DH says he can't do it right I tell him practice makes perfect but he refuses to do even a ponytail and DD is only 21 months so she doeant have alot of hair. I've shown him how I do it.
Detangler then brush it out then gather smooth it out and tie it and lol he's tried maybe twice. He got his feelings hurt when his sister said "did your daddy comb your hair?"cuz obviously it wasn't perfect and he said "see I suck ", but I told him" no you did great and thing is your trying " sooo

Can your SO do your DDs hair? Does he? Looks good?
What can i say to get him to see it's something he needs to do? It shouldn't just be a mommy resposibilty. Right?

What can I do next?

If I ever have a girl, I'll let you know!

I will say my dad used to blowdry/brush my hair and put it in a simple braid or ponytail. It was an awesome bonding experience and I loved it!

My husband can do little girl hair, yes! He even knows to put a bow in that matches their outfits. His shining moment was when I was out of town on a business trip, so he had to do DD's hair for ballet class. She came out after class and said, "GUESS WHAT? My teacher said that for our recital, everyone has to have their hair in a high bun, and she used me for the example of how it should look!" My husband was so proud of himself, you have no idea. It's kind of funny because my husband is a big, burly construction worker. You would never know to look at his big hands that he could do a good job with a ballet bun!

But take heart, your daughter is still really little, with super fine hair. As she gets older, her hair will be way easier to do, and your husband will get it if he keeps trying. My girls are 6 and 9, so DH has had lots of time to learn. LOL

Yep, my Husband can do my daughter's hair. Brushes it too when need be.
No problem.
My daughter will even 'teach' him how she likes her hair, just in case. He takes it with much, good hearted attitudes.
My girl is 9.

ANYONE can do their daughter's hair.
It just takes, practice.
It is not a gender based, "job."
The only thing a man can't do, is breastfeed.
;)

I think your Hubby is just demoralized... because his sister 'insults' his attempts at it.
IGNORE her rude comments.
Gee, he tried. That is GOOD enough for me.

I do not have a girl, and I think my man would be resistant too but I would show him some of the videos here on cute girls hairstyles .... they do "daddy do's" all the time ... basically cool hair styles that are dummed down for daddys.

LOL! Heck yes! He BETTER! haha... We have four girls. None of them independently do their hair yet. We both do their hair. I do it mostly, but he does it, too.

Everything with our girls is like that- we are very equal when we are both home. I stay at home and he works out of the home, so I do most cause I'm here, but he certainly does NOT have a "won't do" list. Not even close. I thank God for that! ...but if he was the kinda guy that wouldn't be doing certain things, I wouldn't have been interested in him in the first place!

Might I add, they do not have easy hair! :) Always tangles. Fine hair, curly hair, long hair, WILD hair! lol... except our youngest. Her hair looks instantly styled w/o even touching it -even in the morning! She's also the only blond in our family of dark brunettes! hehe:)

Yes he does! And I think its adorable when he does her hair.. He sticks to 3 hair styles. single ponytail, pig tails, or a regular braid in the middle. sometimes he will add little barrettes or hair clips or headbands. She seems to be more patient when Daddy does her hair. He has gotten better over the 2.5 years of her life. And now with having our second daughter he will be an expert when her hair gets long enough. she is only 4 1/2 months old but he brushes her hair already just like he did with our first. cant really do much more with her at this time.

Yes, he does. My husband has had long hair for years, so he already knew how to pull it back and put it in a ponytail and get the hairband in right. All the clippies and bows and things were new though, and I had to teach him how to braid. So, although I usually do it, mostly because I really enjoy brushing and styling her hair, on a busy morning morning or evening (we brush and braid her hair at night to keep it from getting too tangly) he will do it. She is now 6 and her hair is getting close to waist length. I'm wondering how long it will be until she wants to do it herself. I suspect that it will be a while yet as long hair is harder to brush and style than short hair.

DH never tried to do her hair because she refuses any barettes, ponytails, etc. However, he is much more successful than me at WASHING her hair. She is the perfect angel for him during bath time but a wriggly mess for me. When I ask him to wash her hair, he just shrugs and says "it's easy." Bah!

My dad used to love to brush and braid my hair.
He was far more gentle than my mother, let me tell you. For her it was more like "get it done and get it over with" as part of the routine.
My dad did my hair on weekends and it was less a task and more a relaxing thing.
My husband had no choice but to do my daughter's hair because I was always in the hospital so much. He did pretty well.

I don't think you should force the issue though, especially if someone is going to be critical of how your daughter's hair looks afterwards.
I'm not sure I understand why he NEEDS to do her hair unless you aren't available to do it. Once she gets a little older and gets more hair, it might be easier for him to attempt without worrying that he's going to hurt her or it won't look "perfect".

Just my opinion.

No...he cannot and does not want to learn...he says his fingers are to big to use the little bitty pony holders. He does not want to learn to braid.

When he is stuck he can make a pony tail...but it will fall out in less than an hour.

Girl hair is my job...well, boy hair is too for that matter...I handle all the hair in the family but my husbands (and he really doesn't have much left...lol)

My girls are older now (10 and 8) so they do their own hair, but when they were little? Are you serious? My husband probably doesn't even know what a hair brush is..... God love him.

I wish! I don't think in 7 years he has even brushed her hair! I have asked numerous times and he just won't do it for me(luckily for me, thats the only thing he won't help me with).

Growing up, my dad always did my hair. I don't know why...my mom was always there. But I used to love getting my hair 'crimped'(remember this?) and he was always the one to do it! He still can't braid though!

Does DH mean darling husband and DD mean darling daughter?

I leave for work before anyone else in the house wakes up, so my husband has no option but to do my daughter's hair. I can do it better, but he definitely tries, and I think even on some level enjoys it.

One problem was school picture day. I asked our teen babysitter to come before she went to school to do my daughter's hair. The photos weren't taken until after lunch and recess, and her hair was an absolute mess by then. So this past week were picture retakes. I woke my daughter up to do her hair, and my husband went to school when the photo shoot took place so that he could ensure that her hair was still in its side pony tails.

My mom didn't like doing my hair, and she used to rip through my hair with the brush. While it would be nice for you to have your husband do her hair, on the other hand, the recipient may not enjoy the experience of a hair brushing from someone who does not enjoy the task.

Yes, our husband did her hair.. and she has curly hair.

He put it in Pig tails or a pony tail.

He had never done any type of girls hair before, but he just seemed to be able to figure it out.

If your husband can change tire, he can certainly learn to brush and put her hair in a pony tail.
