I believe that is sleeping through the night. They are able to sooth themselves back to sleep and that is what you want! Great job. I also have twins and 2 stepsons and just want to say that it does get easier. Have fun with them.

We have been doing sleep training and things seem to have settled in pretty well. But, I'm new to this and not sure if what my babies do is pretty typical or if it may be an issue... Each of them wakes up three to four times through the night, talks to themselves, and then goes back to sleep within around 10 minutes. They are in different rooms, so they don't hear each other talking and don't seem to wake each other up. So, is it typical for them to wake up so much that they talk to themselves or when babies wake through the night do they usually just readjust position and go back to sleep.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I needed to know if this was as good as it is going to get or if I should be working on helping them sleep better.
My husband and I agreed that once they are able to "sleep through the night" and it won't get any better than it is, they move back into the same room together. We've wanted them together all along, but they had such a hard time getting enough sleep, and were constantly sleep deprived, that we separated them to do sleep-training. I know there will be disruption for them at first to be in the same room again, but we'll all get through that just like we've been doing. Now that they are sleeping as well as they should, I expect less difficulty than if we had done sleep training together.
So, please wish us luck. I think we'll take the next step this weekend. And, once they're sleeping this well and sharing a room, the monitors finally go off because we share a wall and I can hear if they need me.
Thanks again!!!

Too cute they wake up and talk to themselves. Most kids wake a few times a night. It is AWESOME they get themselves back to sleep!!! I have never heard a child waking up and chatting but you never know. As long as they are going back to sleep quickly it isn't a problem I wouldn't think.
I think it is cute! Once they hit the 3 year mark kids are more apt to stay asleep all night long other then adjusting positions. Both of my kids would wake up really early in the morning, babble to themselves then fall back to sleep.
I would be thankful that they are able to self soothe and go right back to sleep. My kids always wake up yelling for me! It doesn't sound like an issue at all, since they don't disrupt anyone else, and are able to go back to sleep on their own.
this is exactly what my nephew does. celebrate that they are putting themselves back to sleep!
HI,
As long as you are not getting them up and they are putting themselves back to sleep then it's great!! I put my twins in the same crib for the first 6 months and when they were next to eachother they slept through without much waking. It was the need for their "other half" since they are so close in the womb. If you feel you need to try something else. Congratulations and know that it gets easier for a little while at around 8 months :) Then once they walk, wow I'm everywhere! :)
At least they're not crying and screaming! I think it's fine that they wake up and put themselves back to sleep. I also had twins, but they shared the room. They would usually not wake each other up, but by 11 months were solidly sleeping through the night without much waking. I don't think yours are doing anything out of the ordinary.
Babies are so unique, it's hard to tell. I would say they're not requiring you to get up and feed them, so that's sleeping through. As long as there's not a health condition that wakes them up it all sounds really cute and fun.
I just have to say I really admire all you moms with twins out there. Every time I see you I am struck with how beautiful you are. I think that beauty comes from all the love you have for your children.
If they are getting up and then going back to sleep and you don't have to get up --- who cares!?!? Congrats!
This sounds typical to me. and really, to me, it doesn't matter...if they're happy and healthy, I'm good with it!! :o)
I'm curious, though, why the separate rooms for twins at this age???
that is normal=) my daughter does it as well it is kind of funny the listen to her LOL
How cool is that!? It sounds like a twin thing to me. I'd call it sleeping through the night since they put themselves back to sleep. I wonder if sleeping in the same room would make a difference... but it seems like they've come up with thier own solution to being separated. Doesn't sound like a bad thing to me at all.
Count your blessings. That is amazing that they can get themselves right back to sleep. I wish my 14 month old could get himself back to sleep.
You are golden! Just go to sleep yoursefl, turn off those monitors and sleep. You will wake if there is a cry for a need. Yours are nearly 1 year and they seem to be soothing themselves. They should sleep 10-12 hours at night now. they will probably have a short nap in am and a longer two hour one in pm. the am one drops around 18 months. The total is about 14 hours.
