Hi R., I see you posted two questions and both go together to answer each. Yes chocolate can affect your baby, and it may be whats bothering your little girl. What you eat does get into your breastmilk and some foods can upset some children's tummys. So the chocolate you love may be bothering her. You are lucky its only causing 15-20 minutes of distress as some infants cay scream for hours on end from foods the M. eats. Broccoli, onions, spicy foods, and others can make a miserable baby. Colic has never really been figured out and usually lasts a lot longer, is usually a bit earlier in the evening, but if I were you, I'd stop the chocolate and see what happens. When my son was a few weeks old he had 1 evening of screaming crying and I thought maybe it was the start of colic. I laid him on his tummy across my thighs and just jiggled him up and down, and patted his back at the same time. All of a sudden he burped really big, spit up some, and messed his pants all at once! And never cried like that again! Also with another infant who cried a lot and was not a good burper, I found while burping after feeding, if I laid her back, sat her up, laid her back, sat her up,,, it helped dislodge air bubbles in her tummy and she burped much better than if I just had her on my shoulder patting her back. So try leaving the chocolate alone, and burping her better, and maybe it will help. Hugs to you both!
