Does Anyone Know What Helps with Varicose Veins?

I am having a horrible time with varicose and spider veins during this pregnancy. It seems that new veins are popping out every week or so. They are all up and down my legs. I haven't had them this bad in the past, so have never done anything about it. This time they are sometimes painful and itchy. I probably need to get some compression tights to wear when it cools off a little. Have any of you tried any you like? Also, I have read about several supplements with natural ingredients, but I don't know if they are safe during pregnancy and/or nursing or if they even work. I would love to know if any of you have had any success with anything! Thank you!!!

So What Happened?

I am wearing my compression hose for the first time today. I wish I had gotten them a long time ago! I bought the medium compression hose from Babycenter.com. They are fairly comfortable and I can't feel the veins bulging out of my calves. I am taking a good prenatal vitamin, but I will ask my doctor if it is safe to take extra B vitamins. I forgot to ask her about that. Thank you for all of your help! If anyone finds out anything else, please let me know!! Thank you!!!

Varicose veins are a symptom of adrenal stress. Given the age of your children, it's not surprising that your adrenals would be stressed. Are you taking a good pre-natal vitamin? If not, you should. If you are, it could be you're low in B vitamins - again not surprising given the age of your children (the fetus will get the nutrition rather than the mother if you're low).

My varicose veins were also painful and itchy like yours and adding the B vitamins (a B-50 along with extra B12, B6, folic acid and B5) has totally eliminated any pain or itchiness. Your doctor may not want you to add these vitamins, so the compression hose are definitely the best approach. Here's an article that discusses the alternatives:

I recommend starting with the B's because those are also so very important to your developing fetus. But, again, you should not take any supplements without first talking to your doctor. They should have no problem running the blood tests for your levels of B12 and Folic Acid, for example, which would give you an idea if you're deficient.

Compression hose is the only thing that works, & even then it's not 100%. I would talk to your doc just in case.

Good luck!

Dear T.,

Denise Austin has a book called "Shrink Your Female Fat Zones" or something like that. In it are exercises to do for varicose veins. I've heard they work wonders!

Hope this helps!
