That has to be overwhelming. I think the first person I would talk to would be her teachers. Find out what resources the school can offer. Ask to have her evaluated by the school to see if she qualifies for resource time, tutoring, extra time on tests, other accommodations, etc. Share her diagnosis with them, but they might insist on their own evaluations before offering services.
You can also ask her teachers if they know of any tutors that they recommend (if you feel that what the school can offer is not going to be enough). It is very possible that her teachers will know someone who used to teach at the school (and maybe left to have a baby) or someone who is in college and can tutor or a retired teacher.
That is where I would begin. If you still are not having any luck, go back to her doctor and ask there. They should be able to point you in the direction of other resources in your community.
It really is overwhelming. Our son has special needs, and it is not always easy to find the right resource to meet his needs. But keep talking to people, and you will succeed!
