Hi B., There is Kids Cabana in Lee's Summit. You pay by the hour, I believe it's 5 or 6 dollars. I have a friend who highly recommends it. Hope I helped. A.
I've heard of these before and can't remember the name of one I've heard about (Kiddie Care? Kiddie Korner?). But basically it's a call ahead daycare center, not meant for regular full-time care, but for mom's who need someone to watch the kids while they have an appointment or something? I'm needing to find childcare for 3 hours each Friday afternoon until end of April and the daycares I have contacted don't want to do it b/c it takes up space for potential full-timers. If anyone knows the names of these "drop-off" or "hourly" daycares could you please let me know??? THANK YOU!!! :)
I should mention that I live close the stadiums (KC address sandwiched between Independence and Raytown).
Thank you all for the recommendations and advice. I did end up visiting Kids Kabana and was highly impressed, so we signed them up there for the hourly program. And it's quite affordable, more so than some private caregivers had offered. You get a percentage off for pre-paying your childcare and you also get a discount for spending $40 for an annual Klub Kabana membership (which gives you 3 coupons a month that pay for the membership fee within a few visits!) I'm very happy we found this place, thank you again.

Hi B.,
Just a suggestion--
You'd probably be better off (and most assurredly, so would your child) if you could just ask a trusted friend or relative if you could set up a "standing babysitting" arrangement for every Friday afternoon. You could even take it in trade and "swap" favors.
I was in Daycare for years and worked in every kind of daycare situation-- I was a private nanny for a few years, then I worked at La Petite (a national chain), then at a small privately owned Christian daycare that also allowed drop-offs ,- so believe me, I know daycare.
Daycare situations are bad enough-- DROP off daycares like you're describing are worse. First, you have NO idea who these people are. And because you only use them once in a while, you never really will know them. And neither will your child. The same thing goes with the kids-- because it's "drop off", new kids show up here and there, with personalities and behavior problems that the workers are unaware of.
Oh-- and another problem I just thought of-- daycares have limits to how many kids they're allowed to have in the building--dependent on the number of workers, the size of the building, number of exits (fire code stuff)-- and drop off centers will frequently be OVER their limits because they keep saying "yes" to more kids, even though they're at their max. They figure the "extra" kids will only be there for a few hours, here and there, and they won't get caught.
Best wishes!
