I have a family member that needs some help with a death. I believe he is shock and needs some kind of therapy. He is going to go to a counselor.I'm thinking that it might also be a good idea to get in some kind of group setting for grief also. Does anyone know of a free group setting that he can join to just offset his days between the counseling? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

Debby Wines is THE BEST! She has two offices. One in Rockwall and one in Arlington. Here is her contact info. She's not the type to just sit there and see uh huh while you talk...she really gets into it with you and helps to sort through it all. She's like a life coach/counselor.

I have gone to Dr. Sumith Fernando in Bedford on and off for the last few years. His counseling group is called Agape Christian Counseling and you can probably find him in the yellow pages. I have referred him to many of my friends and family. Everyone is pleased with the results of their therapy. I'm sorry to hear of your friends loss and hope this helps.

Hi,
I am so very sorry for your family member's loss. Grief recovery is never an easy thing and it is a good idea to reach out and get help. I honestly don't know if they still do it, but I remeber when my grandfather died, my mother was involved with a grief recovery group at Northway Christian Church. It is a Disciples of Christ (Christian) church and is located in the Park Cities on Northwest Highway & Boedecker (I think). My Mom thought it was a really good group - I hope this helps.

The Monthly Support Group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM. Pre-registration is not required for the monthly support group.

I hope this helps.

In a situation like this, I think a church will be a very good and helpful tool for him. It depends on which area of town you live, my church is a very good family church. I am from Africa and right from the very day I stepped into that church, I knew I was were God wanted me to be and it's very awesome. If want him to go there, look up the website at www.ndcbf.org (North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship)

Hi C.,
A good place to start your search is area churches. A lot of them offer grief recovery. Some also have pastoral counseling available. When my son died, it was very helpful for me to enroll in a group. The one that I took part in allowed each of us in the small group to process our loss in a loving, guided way.
Hope this helps,
M.

I know of a Christian counseling center in Denton sponsored by Denton Bible church. It's called Steve Barns and Assoc. They would probably know of some groups. I've seen where there are support groups in the Denton area for grief, but other than that, I'm not sure of. Hope this helps.

Our church has a grief recovery class - my mom went through it and thought it was very helpful when my grandfather passed away - here is the info from our church website:

Grief Recovery Class
In a series of six sessions the Grief Recovery Class offers a time of learning and sharing with others in order to find God’s plan in your journey through grief. Understanding the grief process is reassuring and healing after a divorce, losing a loved one, or a job. Doing grief work allows us to put our losses in perspective and use the gifts of love that we have had to regain our balance. God has promised the return of joy into our lives when we trust Him! Hi---you're being a great friend by helping your friend like this...our church has a "Celebrate Recovery" group that meets on Tuesday evenings. It started less than a year ago and has been a great success. It's very private and provides free childcare if needed. I agree with the other postings that the family member should seek out the pastors of his church but if he doesn't currently now is the time for his involvement in a local church. God uses different circumstances in our lives to speak to us and sometimes it involved trials and tragegies. We seem to be more receptive to God's voice during those times (although his voice was there all along during the "good times"). It's a married couple that runs our Celebrate Recovery group --Amy & Allan Smalling--such an open & honest couple. The church is First Baptist, The Colony ###-###-####. Call the church for directions.
