My 17 month old daughter had a fever (102.3)for about 4days, along with loss of appetite, and problems sleeping. She is teething, all canines. The fever broke but now she has a rash across her forehead and behind her ears, as well as a few spots on her chest. I this due to her teething or something else? It is sat. So the clinic is not open and I don't want to make an ER trip if it's not necessary. Does any one have any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did call the nurse line an they were no help! I was til by a friend, who's a nurse, that it probly was a fever rash. I got some calaclear lotion for the itch, and if it doesn't improve by Monday I'll take her to her doctor. Thanks for the advise.

Sounds like a virus to me. My ped said that teething never causes fever. If there is a fever, it's an infection of some kind.

My first thought was heat rash too.

But why not call the pediatrician's 24 hour advice line and get a doctor or a nurse to call you back? That's a much simpler "fix" than running to the ER or an urgent care clinic. Some doctors even allow email - see if you can take a photo of the rash and mail it. It might not be close enough or clear enough, but you can ask. I wouldn't go to the ER in a case like this unless the pediatrician told me it was advisable.

i wouldn't take her to the ER for a rash either, not since she's teething. but no, i don't know what's causing your daughter's rash, nor does anyone else here. it's unlikely that you're going to find a stranger who will be any more helpful than the nurse line.
take her in to the pediatrician tomorrow if it's still there. treat the symptoms sensibly today. if things go suddenly south, get her to an ER.
i mean, what else can anyone here say?

If the rash is the only current symptom, this is not a medical emergency.

Of course the nurse isn't of much help. Rashes have many causes. If the nurse thought this is serious, she would've told you to take her to the ER or urgent care. Relax! She will be fine.

Taking her to the doctor, if that's even needed, can wait until Monday. Call the office first. A trip to the doctor may not be necessary.

There are many causes for a fever followed by a rash, often not serious or requiring care. However, this site is not staffed with health professionals that can accurately diagnose the symptoms that you put in your post.

This site explains well different causes of rash, defines the terminology used to describe different rashes, & helps differentiate between rashes that are serious (see bottom of article especially, there is a rash that requires an ER visit) & those that just need time to resolve.

Chances are this rash is NOT due to teething - that is usually a facial rash around the mouth (from drooling ,etc.) & not on the forehead, neck or chest.

Your best bet is to contact your pediatricians after-hours number, or if your insurance offers it the nursing triage line. You can also make a call to the local hospital ED & ask to speak to someone to determine if your daughter needs to be seen. Good luck! T. :)

There is a 'high fever' going around. My daughter's doctor said there might be a rash after a couple of days and there is nothing to do, just wait for it to go away. Now, I can not tell you your child has the same issue, but I wanted to let you know there is a chance it is nothing to be worried about. Your child is younger than mine.

sounds like a heat rash to me, caused by the fever.

Maybe I'm way off .. but if my baby had a fever for 4 days, wasn't eating or sleeping and a rash, I'd think it was viral.

That to me doesn't sound like teething. I was told by my doctor that fever isn't generally a symptom of teething. Maybe a mild one, but not something that would last for days.

Rashes from teething are more underneath the mouth where they drool.

Without seeing it, I can't tell if it's anything like what we've experienced. We've had many fevers here, but no rashes from them.

If it was my baby, I'd take her in.

Itchy and in pain... Poor baby! For the teething have you heard about amber necklaces. You put them on and in about six hours drooling and pain completely gone! Each bead is individually tied and most kids don't play em with them!http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00488TF38. These are unfortunately out of stock but I wanted you to be able to read the description. And look for real amber, you'll pay closer to $20. I saw some for 7$ not sure I would trust that not to be glass😁. As for the rash lavender oil in a diffuser might help if you get a good brand. I put doterra lavender with a carrier oil on my daughter for an angry rash and it calmed down. Needed to reapply it about 2 hours later but it got and felt better!
