Ok here is the deal I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroditis yesterday. The doctor wants to put me on Levoxyl. I have an 11 month old baby we want to try to have another very soon. I will be 36 years old later on this year. Has any of your mom been diagnosed with HT or know anyone that has. I am still nursing my little boy and slowing weaning him right now. Does any have any advice on HT and what kind of treatments they used to help with HT.

What can I do next?

J., I have had HT for almost 10 years now. I have 2 boys and took Armour Thyroid throughout both (the pregnancy and breastfeeding). I did a lot of research on this and have found a lot of information. The most important to me (as well as my doctor) was the medication. He recommended Armour Thyroid which is a natural thyroid medication vs. the others which are all synthetic. The difficult part is trying to find a doctor that is familiar with Armour and will prescribe it for you. You can go to the website www.armourthyroid.com and it will give you information on the medication as well as doctor referrals (click on "information for patients" and then look in the very top right corner for "physican locator"). My doctor told me that I needed to continue the medication before, during and after pregnacy. So there is no contridictions with Armour during breastfeeding, or getting pregnant. Please let me know if you have any other questions, I have a ton of info (problem is it is all in my head not on paper). My email is ____@____.com care!

Hi J.:
Yes ,I have been on a thyroid replacement for aprox. 20 years, and it shouldn't have any effect on your getting pregnant again. The medication,is merely to keep your thyroid level where it should be.The Dr. will test you periodically to make sure your dose is appropriate for you.I wish you the best.

Hi! I have this, and actually just got my thyroid removed in April. The medicine that works best for me was synthroid, NOT generic! ALSO....it's important that you know if you don't take this medicine and your levels aren't right it INCREASES your risk of miscarriage! Both my sons were concieved and carried and breastfeed while I took this medicine and are healthy happy little buggers! I did have miscarriages BEFORE my levels were straightened out! While pregnant you should be watched more closely cause you will likely need adjusting. Pregnancy usually makes your medicine go up....also after birth. HT carries a lower risk of thyroid cancer, so that's a plus. You'll feel MUCH better when you get straightned out. I was amazed...my energy went up, my bowel movements got more regular...I mean...thyroid conditions of ANY sort can really mess with you! Best of luck!

I was diagnosed with this years ago. I have been on Synthroid since. (And I agree with the other mom, do NOT use the generic.)I had no problems conceiving my son or regulating my thyroid levels during my pregnancy. As long as you are on the medication and tested regularly to make sure nothing has changed, you should be absolutely fine and have no problems. Good luck!

Hi
Yes I have this too. I also recommend Amour thyroid as a medication. I also found this book helpful (you can probably get it on AMazon): http://www.thyroid-info.com/aremrevw.htm
Make sure your thyroid is monitored regularly, esp if you are planning #2. Exercise helps a LOT too
Good luck

I did not have Hashimoto's, but Graves Disease. I had my thyroid removed when I was 21 and have been on synthroid ever since (almost 15 years). I did not have any trouble getting pregnant and my levels stayed steady during pregnancy. I did however have low milk production, which I have heard could be from my thyroid issues. I was determined to breastfeed for a year and did so having to supplement now and then.
Best of Luck to you!
