Does 5 Hour Energy Work

Normally I am an energetic person, but I have had back to back kid sickness for a month, where I have been up multiple times a night, as well as taking 18 hours of school, and a 2.5 hour commute. Tonight I go away with school until monday, the first time ever in my life I have been anywhere without my kids, and I am so excited! But I am soooooo tired... Would 5 hour energy work for me to have a night out just for this once?

What can I do next?

Get some sleep.
You need it more than a night out.
You'll feel better and think more clearly.
Too many people try to keep running on empty when it comes to sleep and those caffeine energy boost drinks just add stress and don't help at all.

The only effective ingredient in these drinks is caffeine. All the other ingredients are things already in your body/diet, don't give you extra energy or make the energy last longer, and are a gimmick. If you normally drink coffee, I'd recommend that instead.

"Major producers like 5-Hour Energy, Red Bull, Monster Energy and Rockstar Energy all say their products contain proprietary blends of ingredients that provide a range of mental and physical benefits. But the companies have conducted few studies to show that the costly products provide anything more than a blast of caffeine, a stimulant found in beverages like coffee, tea or cola-flavored sodas."

None of those energy products work for me. I have tried most all of them to no avail. I am tired all the time.

When I was pregnant, 18 yrs ago, I had to have B-12 injections so I am fully aware that something is going on in my body for me to feel tired all the time.

I do take B-12 daily now and I use the little pill that you dissolve under your tongue. That is the ONLY thing that has made me perk up when I am at my worst.

Of course, I do make sure I have regular blood work done because my body has issues with absorption of important vitamins. I have WAY too much iron in my body yet I am anemic... weird huh! THe B-12 helps offset that.

Good luck.

I don't know, but it tastes awful. I took one sip and poured it down the sink.

Is it akin to taking No-Doz like I did in college? Tons of caffeine so that you feel jittery and nauseous in your stomach? I did that in order to finish writing term papers.

I get if you want fun for one night, I guess I understand trying it. It would be better if you took a nap today. Any chance that you can do that?

Have a wonderful weekend! (I hope you get to sleep a little late!)

Sleep is the only thing that will help. I don't know if you can find a carpool or something like that, but it would allow you some more rest. If someone else is driving on the trip away, REST while they drive. Or find out if someone else CAN drive so you can rest.

I think it depends on how your system would handle it. As others posted here, these drinks can have very adverse reactions. Are you willing to take that risk or just rest up the old-fashioned way.

Maybe go out for a little while?

I've found that even cat naps completely "reset" my body and my brain.

Good luck!

I drank it once during an overnight drive and it did work... a little too much, because I was fully wired well after the 5 hours was up.

If I was as burned out as you sound, I would forgo the night out and take a nice long rest. If you're really looking for genuine ways to boost your energy, nothing works quite like eating a good diet, exercising after you wake up, taking vitamins, and drinking lots of water.

A couple years ago I was at work and one of my co-workers (Who was in her late 50s/early 60s) was SOOO tired because she had had her grandkids over the night before and she decided to try a 5 hour energy. She only drank half of it, but it got her heart beating so fast that we had to call 911 and have an ambulance take her to the ER.

I vowed never to try them after that.

The company I work for sells a great product for energy that is sugar-free and has over 20 vitamins and minerals so it is a better option. Nobody I have sold to has had medical issues. It comes in a powder mix so you can adjust the amount or in a little shot bottle. I send out lots of free samples to anyone interested. It comes in great flavors. Pm me for more info.

I play sports and have tried it all as I've gotten older. 5hr, Red bull, energy gum.....you name it. I now use Crystal Light energy. The good thing is you just mix with water, so you can control how much you use. Just half a packet or more, whatever you want. Good luck.

My friend is a lousy house keeper. Her husband moved out and told her it was basically because she was a slob. She begged me and a friend to come help her get it deep clean so she could work on learning to manage her home better.

She was using the 5 hour energy drinks for a few days to help her feel more energetic and ready to get her life in order.

She drank one while we were there and in about half an hour she was higher than a kite. She laid on the floor and giggled about something stupid for 20 minutes. It was so frustrating. I vowed to NEVER use them myself.

From what I understand they are not very healthy and from what I saw I would say if you do try them sip it at first to see how it effects you.

I guess I'm probably answering too late, but if not, I warn you not to try this while you are away. You don't know how your body will react to it, and plenty of people just get nauseously jittery off of things like this...if that happens, you won't enjoy yourself, and when you DO crash, you won't sleep well.

If it were me, I'd take the chance to lounge in bed and watch a little TV and catch up on my sleep. :) I'd probably order a pizza and eat it in bed.
