I'm not sure how to explain this. I am currently having problems w/ my son's newer doctor. I am wanting to have him tested for certain things that run on both sides of the family. But I can't get my son's doctor to test him for those certain things. I've litterally been through ALL the doctors in the practice except for I think one. What should I do? My son's newer doctor kind of specializes in the certain area I'm trying to get him to test my son. HELP, what should I do??
I'm pretty sure he's beginning to show signs of a rare form of M.D. that runs on his dad's side of the family.

Is the doctor explaining to you why he isn't wanting to run the tests? Is it because he doesn't agree that there's reason to be concerned, or that he doesn't think the tests are particularly effective? Is there another practice in your area that you could make an appointment, specifically for these tests, with?

I noticed your "about me" mentioned that your son is a special needs child. You may want to consult the family worker at his school about getting your son tested. He/she may know of a center or doctor that may be willing to test for minimal or no charge.
These days, doctors are like double agents. They work for you but they work for insurance companies, too. There's probably an age requirement policy. He may not fall into a particular category.
Is your son in public school? I'm not sure what your school system is like, but if you have a doctor for the student body, you may want to consult him/her as well. Normally they conduct physicals and medical evaluations free of charge.

INSIST on the tests...pay out of pocket if you have to OR go to a new practice!
Get a new doctor. Since you have a family history there should be no reason to deny your son's testing. Your doctor is there to care for your son & your concerns & if he is not taking you concerns seriously it is time to find ne who will.

If you've been through all of the doctors in the practice and not getting what you want from anyone why can't you find another practice?

If the doctor that your son is seeing now "kind of" specializes in the type of medicine to identify genetic disease such as M.D., I would suggest that you schedule an appointment with the current doctor without your son present and state your concerns about the genetic history of M.D. in the biological father's family. Express your concern's about the symptom's that you believe you are noticing in your son. Honestly, it probably is not the doctors area of expertise if he only "kind of" specializes in genetic medicine. Asked to be referred to a "legitimate specialist", such as a Rhumatologist. The Rhumatologist is the guy (or gal) to see for concern's about genetic muscular disease. Also, I would consider finding a different clinic if you have already "been through all but one" of the providers at the clinic you are currently visiting. Sound's to me like the good old "HMO SHUFFLE" and I know how fusturating that can be.

You are in charge of yours and your son's medical care. Insist that the doctor do the tests and if s/he won't, find one who will.
