If I can help it, I usually see female doctors, no matter if I'm being seen for a cold or a pap smear.
((I *have* had a young male doctor take a pass at me (especially uncomfortable since he was also in the process of feeling around my lower abdomen - Wait...did that just REALLY happen?!) but, that had little to do with his gender, age, looks, or sexual orientation, and a LOT to do with his unprofessional/unethical choice.))
My reasons for seeing female doctors are:
1. I am more often/easily triggered by male bodied and male identified people than I am by people who are not male bodied and male identified.
2. I am more able to advocate for my own health when I am feeling more comfortable.
3. I prefer to be seen by professionals who identify as feminist (the idea that men and women are equal and deserve equal rights) and, while there are MANY feminist men in the world, I have found that most of the feminist practitioners who *I've* had, also happen to be female.
I have worked with a few male doctors and dentists whom I felt entirely safe and comfortable and, conversely, women who I felt patronized and/or disregarded by. For example, my last pap was preformed by a woman and it was a simply awful experience.
