Do Your Kids Read to Each Other?

I admit I think it is the cutest thing ever when my (almost 7) son reads to his brother (5) and sister (3). I have absolutely no memories of my older brother reading to me (we are only a year apart though) or myself reading to my younger brother (who is 3 years younger than me).

I love it - it is seriously one of my most favorite things this winter. It's the easiest way for him to get his "required" 15 minutes of reading done. Most nights when he starts he ends up reading 30. It's great.

Do your older kids read to the younger ones?

Yes, and I also love it! My boys are 7 and 14, and they usually read to each other because they are excited about what they are reading something and they want to share it with the other one. My 7 year old reads to his brother all the time. My 14 year old read to his brother more often when he was younger, but he still reads to him sometimes. :)

Yes, my older son has always read to his little brother, which is super cute. Now that my younger son (in 1st grade) can read he helps his older brother with homework by reading the spelling words to him. Also very, very cute.

My 8 year old daughter reads to her five year old brother. My 5 year old nonverbal autistic son "reads" to his sister as well. It's very sweet and I love it.

My 9yo (only child) reads to the dog.

Because, you know, dogs can't read.

Yes, my children read to each other all the time! If you can get away with it without them seeing, turn on the video camera. Memories are amazing.
Keep helping them make them. Sounds like you are a great mom!

My kids are 3 and 4 and are just now starting to retell stories we have read using the pictures to remind them. It is super cute and I am always amazed at the detail they remember just from listening!

No... When my oldest learned to read, the youngest was too young to be still to listen. He was 4, she was 1. By 4, she was reading herself. And we always all read together (mostly me...they liked hearing me) :)

But, this is really sad, lol, but when my husband was younger, and he and his brother and sister were being mean or not getting along or whatever, his aunt would make them all listen to his youngest sister read. Evidently she was just learning and not so great at it. They STILL joke about it (with her). I don't know how she doesn't have a complex about it, lol.

Yes, my 6 year old child who is just learning to read even "reads" to the 1 year old. My second oldest daughter (12) reads to the other kids the most, but I've caught them all reading to one another throughout the day.
