Before I graduated and got the "adult" job, I worked at Walmart. I hated it. I especially hated their false sense of "community" that they tried to push on everyone, when really the management could've cared less about me as long as I was at work. I didn't get paid nearly enough to put up with the BS.

I also worked at Kroger, which was a better job, but they didn't pay me well at all.

I am a retail Hag.. I started in retail at 16 and have been a salesperson, a manager, a store manager and a buyer.. I have opened stores and I have closed stores.. I have never worked anywhere for less than 5 years at a time..

I love giving great customer service and pride myself on helping people find exactly what they are looking for and the perfect gift..

I used to be young and perky and cute.. Now I am one of those older enthusiastic sales people.. that some people roll their eyes at.. But I really do love it.

I have made really good money and I have worked where the money was not great, but the skills I learned helped me in my next location..

I also love exciting merchandise. I have always worked were I personally loved the merchandise and actually shopped.

Retail is takes a lot of self motivation, you have to like people and understand that not everyone you help will have your taste.. If someone was not having a great day, get ready to deal with them regardless.

I've been in luxury retail for over 20 years, childrens,, Home, Bridal, Womens' RTW, Men's RTW , shoes etc. From sales to regional manager. I like the dynamics of being on the floor, and meeting people and helping them out and motivating a sales team. I don't like rude and impatient customers and people who refuse to acknowledge that there is a "return policy" LOL. Retail though has one huge downside, that is the hours. It's really hard to have a family life, when your schedule changes weekly, you work weekends or late nights. But it has been my saving grace as I have done well in the industry and my loved ones are taken care of. So for me the glass is half full.

I used to work at Walmart. It was ok, the pay was decent for the amount of work involved.

I worked at Hastings for about 3 years... The store I started at in Idaho Falls, ID, I LOVED my job. The pay sucked, but the atmosphere was awesome. When I transferred to Round Rock, TX, I hated my job.Still had sucky pay, and the store was not ran well at all... which frustrated the employees so no one enjoyed or took pride in their work. so the job sucked. Same exact job, just depends on where you are.

I worked for Kohls, Sears and Marshalls when I was younger and going to college full time. it was only stressful during christmas when everyone made a mess in the stores and people were so rude. People pushing, shoving, complaining and whining can break even the best of moods. I always got paid minimal wage and was relieved when I was offered a job as a medical receptionist. One thing I learned from working retail is to NEVER wear clothes after you buy them without washing them first. shoveling the rolled up clothes off the dressing room floors sometimes made me sick. People always got their deodorant stains and shoe prints on clothes marked at $20 +!.

I did work in retail for 2 years and was a store manager at Lane Bryant. At first I really liked it but I got sick of it really fast your always working nights, weekends, during the holiday season it about killed me. It was a thankless job and the pay wasen't worth the headache.

i worked in retail before my son was born. i worked at target for 3 yrs and i enjoyed it for the most part, mostly because i loved the people i worked with. then i moved and started working a a pamida store which i also loved but the coperate office made up an excuse to fire me (they were getting rid of my position and didnt want to have to keep me on the payroll under a new posistion.) then i stared working at kmart. and hated it i did get promoted twice in 2 mnths but manangement was constantly lying to me, and when i told them i was pregnant and couldnt process the hazardous chemicals anymore (which was just a very very small part of my job) they got all mad, and i gave them a five months notice of when i would be quitting and they waited intill two days before i was leaving to have me train a replacement and one of those days i couldnt come in because we were under a level3 snow emergency. though i do think that the general public treats people who work in retail horriably (i am speaking from working yrs of customer service and having people yell at and even threaten me)
