I do and it sucks. I shouldn't have started my morning off like that. Everything was either frustrating, sick and/or depressing... as usual :( Share something positive with me, please?

What can I do next?

I do! I like watching because its one of the few things I can have on where everyone isn't saying "like" for every other word they use.

Try happynews.com All happy all the time.

I read the news, usually at night before I go to bed. It is always a mix of good, bad, boring and interesting. I guess for me I would rather know what is happening in the world and possibly get upset than be totally ignorant of world events.

I never watch the news - local or world. The media focuses on all the bad things that happen because bad news sells. They take one bad thing that happens in one location and beam it around the world so everyone thinks that this is such a bad world to live in. It's not! Don't encourage them by watching. I pick and choose my news online. I only look at the good stuff.

Yes, I usually try to keep up. I also try to read as many positive things as I can too.

Positive, Roof over our heads, healthy bodies, lots of loving friends and family.
Puppies, kittens, rainbows, babies....at least one of those things has to put a smile on your face. :)

I never turn on the TV in the morning unless it's a special event. I do not listen to the radio when I get up, unless it's music. I am online in the morning, but for other things. When I turn to the paper (yes, we still get a paper), I read the funnies first so I'll have something to smile about, and then I look at the rest of it.

If anything big is going on, my husband, who seems to have an obsession for the latest news, lets me know. It doesn't seem to bother him.

I don't want to be totally ignorant, and I do try to keep up. Just not first thing in the morning. (I'll have to check out that happynews.com site.)

In this part of the country, first thing this morning, the sun is bright, the birds are making as much noise as possible, the squirrels are chasing one another in our back yard, and spring is trying to arrive! It's always late here, but we cheer it when it comes. Hope morning is as cheerful at your house.

I'm with Molly. I don't watch or read the news regularly. My husband does and he keeps me posted. I scan the NY Times because I like the "non news" info and get a lot of our their Education and Science sections. Other than that... nope. I'm sure that's not a "PC" standpoint, but I prefer to spend my time with the t.v. "off" and playing with my family!

NPR for me. Sometimes depressing but mostly just informative. And even when it's a sad story, they handle the material so respectfully that you don't feel so bad. And often pretty funny. They like to mix it up.

I usually start by reading Google Us News. It makes me mad, frustrated, nauseated, sometimes I even end up crying. I always pray a bubble around my family. I pray for those affected and try to shake the despair. Then I click on the Entertainment tab and read the inconsequential entertainment news and I feel so much better. Guess what - Amanda Please got arrested. Who cares! But it is mental air freshener that helps shake the smell of bad news.

My actual good news today? All my family is happy and healthy and together. There is no strife or heatache or illness. We have jobs and enough to eat and the occasional splurge. I serve a good God. The sun is shining. I can hear someone cutting the grass and the birds were chirping outside my window this morning. Life is Good.

Nope - I listen to the radio - NPR or Kid Kraddic. I keep up with what's going on and don't have to hear the local EVERYTHING SUCKS report.

Nope. I stopped when my kids were born and I'm so much happier. Seriously - I almost never read the news. I've customized Google news so that it shows me a few areas of interest, but none of the local hype and gore. And I haven't watched CNN or news on TV in years and years and years. Other than being a little out of date on what's going on with the election, I find I don't miss any of it.

Positive stuff... well... it's warm here. Hopefully warm where you are too. The birds are chirping, the sky is blue, and things are starting to sprout in the ground. Spring is such a time of renewal and excitement. Whenever I hear something that freaks me out, I walk outside and dig my toes into the dirt and smell the trees and flowers. Sounds silly, but it helps. GIve it a try!

No, I do not.

When I was in college at OSU I participated in a class teaching methods of doing research. One of the mini "tests" we did was a questionnaire where we were trying to find evidence that watching the news DID NOT make a person more likely to be depressed. Another group took the opposite idea that it DID cause more depression.

Both groups found profound evidence to support the fact that people that do watch the news, or gain information about what is going on in the world whether by internet, radio, newspaper, magazine, etc..., all those who do gain information are much much more likely to feel hopeless and unimportant in the whole aspect of human life. They showed more symptoms across the board to indicate they had multiple symptoms of depression.

These tests were distributed over 4 months and were open to multiple students and professors. Anyone could take them. We had hundreds of results and they all showed the same indications...it was pretty eye opening to me.

I just choose to not watch anything news like but the weather when storms are in my area. If there is a disaster like Hurricane Katrina or that plane that hit that apartment complex then I may find myself watching but as for turning the evening news on, not going to happen.

I wait until mid day for news information, I typically get it from talk radio taking my son to/from school then I may check out some local news websites but over all I do not watch the news - I look for stories that are going on and do my own searches for related information on the web. I find that if I only look at one source I miss a lot of information.

I do not watch News that is run by the corporate Media masses. They are the ones that instill fear into us and keep the game going. People who watch by into the propaganda. I can not subject myself to their unreality reality.

We gave up cable finally over a week ago now. I am loving not even having the Corporate news influence from MSNBC....Because even they are built of fear a the momentary pick me up of peoples true tragedies and the destroying of lives.....

I can not even watch local news or read it.....it is so subjected to the opinions of those still pushing THEIR OBJECTIVES.

I get my info from RT, NPR, BBC....and then a few internet new prints. Once I have gotten my information there, I normally go back up what I have read there by finding another source with the same information. That way I know what I am getting is not the newest hype...built up for an audience to freak out or have someones written opinion on something that I can then take as fact and then be corrected. I hate looking dumb.

I deal with needing to know what is going on in our country and the world. I am an Occupier who needs to be correctly informed on the things that matter the most.

I want reality. REAL REALITY.......not some dressed up and watered down versions of someone else's truth.

I typically do not watch news because of the media hype and the intent to instill fear in those who live in fear.

You can't believe half of what they are saying anyway because the motive is to make money for the news station, etc. Really? Look at all the sponsorships or the highest priced ads on the news... it is RX companies which are pushing their RX drug and all the warnings that come along with taking those drugs. Who's making money here??? I have no trust in the news and especially bo.

Positive... yesterday we enjoyed preparing Easter dinner while watching the Masters golf tournament and seeing someone who well deserved to win, Bubba Watson. It was pleasing to see how he truly appreciated his accomplishment as well and how everyone surrounded him with encouragement and congratulations. We also though Phil Mickelson and Freddy Couples were deserving of the win as well.

We happen to be involved in golfing and have experienced meeting some of the best and I will say the Fred and Phil are outstanding citizens.

Negative... I saw Tiger Woods in a negative light this weekend. When we've been around him he seemed ok (just arrogant) and I have always tried to give him the benefit of the doubt buy after watching him curse on national TV and kick his club around on Saturday after poor shots, I lost respect for him and I would not want my child to want to emulate him. It was obvious that he had been talked to quite heavily on Satuday because his demeanor was much better on Sunday. He seems like a good guy as long as things are going his way but let something get out of line and he can really be an a$$.

That's my soapbox of news for the day. I hope you have a great day!!

I don't watch it because the reporting isn't in-depth enough and I find that can be a little bit 'dangerous.' I read newspapers online and listen to NPR on my drive to/from work.

Wow -- I guess I'm in the minority here. Yes, I watch the news. We also still get the paper also -- in fact, we get a "major" paper and then a local one as well. I'm not a news junky but I do like to at least try to understand what's going on (though I do skip or tune out when there's a particularly sad or upsetting story). On the radio, I listen to music or to NPR and enjoy both at different times and for different reasons. I'm totally not a fan of the more vitriolic talk-radio programs.

It's funny. When I was working and my kids were younger (& louder!) I used to treasure the quiet whenever possible. I'd go to my mom's house where the TV was always on and it made me crazy. Well, now I'm becoming my mother and I find I leave the TV on -- frequently to a regional news station -- just for background sound.

Especially in an election year, I like to have a broad understanding of the issues and where different candidates stand.
